2023 flew by so fast I had no time to post an update. It has been yet another remarkable year for me as I completed my third internship with Tesla in August. My first 2 stints with Tesla were so fun and transformative I decided to look for my next supercharged adventure! My ultimate target was Vehicle Engineering. In my pursuit for a new adventure I met Trina and shared why I wanted to take on the unique challenge of being a PM on the Drive Systems Engineering Team. I was chosen shortly after interviewing with Sakthivel, Tasha, and Abhijit. Thank you all and Noelle for creating a seamless onboarding experience! The experiences I gained were invaluable. I learned the management side of Automotive Engineering by owning some of the coolest high-value projects! It was an absolute roller coaster. There were many hard lessons to learn. The stakes were high as I knew my response would ultimately define my value. The realities of ambitious challenges dawned on me as the pressures of leading programs for a time-sensitive mission-focused company grew super intense. Questioning the value of each decision. Pushing the boundaries of excellence. Taking calculated risks. Agile decision-making. Lean approaches. All were key! It was profoundly enriching to learn from the intense culture pioneered by Elon Musk. I yielded to his "fail fast learn fast" approach to quickly solve problems! Thank you Sakthivel, Mahathi, Shaheryar, Jeffrey, and Tasha for your mentorship, guidance, the opportunities, and all the electrifying adventures! This experience was more exhilarating and augmentative than I could've ever imagined. I'll never forget the people I met, friends I made, and lessons I learned. I've now resumed my schooling and I'm aiming to master new skills, perfect existing ones, kick off new endeavors, and help others pursue their dreams. Starting a new role can be challenging, but the lessons learned from these challenges are invaluable. As a Technical Product Analyst at Tesla, I was captivated by the fast-paced, high-quality work environment of the company. This internship offered a wealth of experiences and insights that have significantly shaped my professional development. Here are the top things I learned during my spring internship: 1. Understanding customers - Learning about customer's behaviour and improving software products to enhance customer satisfaction was a primary focus. I learned to analyze customer feedback meticulously, identify pain points, and collaborate with the teams to implement changes. This approach not only improved user experience but also fostered a deeper connection between Tesla and its customers. 2. Collaborating with Stakeholders - Clear communication is vital in the corporate world, and working with various stakeholders was instrumental in my growth. I developed skills in articulating project requirements, negotiating priorities, and ensuring that everyone was aligned with the project goals. This collaborative effort ensured that projects were completed efficiently and effectively. 3. Improving Tesla Operations - Diving into the operational side of Tesla was a new and exciting challenge. It required a comprehensive understanding of current processes and identifying areas for improvement. By analyzing workflow inefficiencies and proposing streamlined solutions, I contributed to enhancing Tesla's operational effectiveness. This experience taught me the importance of continuous improvement and innovation in achieving successful results. I want to extend a special thanks to Orr. Test driving a Tesla is off the summer bucket list for many. The automaker is rescinding summer internship offers as part of a wider cost-cutting measure. Termed victims of Elon Musk's drive to trim costs amidst sagging electric vehicle sales, aspiring Tesla interns were in for a shock as their summer plans got shelved. Many of these students had already invested in housing, anticipating a summer at Tesla, only to find themselves now in a scramble for alternate opportunities. While the financial impact on Tesla may be minimal considering most internships are low-paid or unpaid, the move does impact their hiring pipeline substantially. Each year, over 3,000 university and community college students globally join Tesla's ranks on internships. While these students gather valuable learning experiences, they also serve Tesla in meeting varied project demands. Halfway through my internship at Tesla, and it's been an incredible journey so far! 🌟 I've had the opportunity to learn and grow, working on cross-functional teams, connecting with brilliant engineers, dedicated technicians, and our amazing customers. The insights gained from these interactions have been invaluable. My focus has been on diving deep into our problem statement and identifying those key gaps that we can bridge and processes that we can enhance. Through this journey, I've had the pleasure of creating a workflow diagram that's poised to redefine how our customers experience self-service. The customer-centric approach we're taking is nothing short of revolutionary and is all set to redefine industry standards. A huge shoutout to my manager, Brittany Keith, MBA, and my mentor Paul Allen whose guidance has been instrumental in my journey. 🙌 Your insights have truly been a guiding light, and I'm eager to learn and grow under your mentorship in the second half of my internship. Halfway through my internship as a Process Engineer at Tesla. Service manufacturing has provided me with unique opportunity to deal with wide variety of challenges everyday. During my time here so far, I enjoyed working with diverse teams on both energy products and automobiles, ranging from analyzing data, identity gaps, to conducting trials and establishing novel processes that was never present before. My trials and ideas did fail a number of times. But, conducting them helped me navigate to next opportunity to solving the same problem, or helped me identify a different problem. Over the period, I had learnt that simple solutions can sometimes be the most effective ones. I would admit that the extremely challenging environment at Tesla brought the best version of myself. Pushing myself to my 100 percent almost everyday, helped me realize the impact that I can create, and provided me with a lot of confidence on my abilities as I could see myself getting better week after week. Huge credits to my manager Sheik Mohammed Ashiq as well as my mentor Muhammad Taimur Kamil, CPIM for providing me with freedom to do things my way, as well as protecting me wherever necessary. Above all, the past 12 weeks have been a journey of self-discovery. It's been a time to learn not only about the intricacies of the work that I do, but also about my own capabilities.
