The transformative potential of SDVs is apparent throughout the industry. However, making SDVs a reality will require many changes to the automotive ecosystem including vehicle architecture, the supply chain, and more. Our expert, Dr. Moritz Neukirchner was interviewed for the article and this is a bit of what he had to say, "Automakers must decouple the life cycle of vehicle software for applications from the underlying hardware, and invest more in software maintenance and support." Another key insight from Moritz: "You also need to be organizationally prepared to roll out new software." And this involves thinking through business models to ultimately make a profit on software investments. We need to stop co-opting the #SDV "term of art" to apply to any car that can receive software updates - it's way more than that at an architectural level. And perhaps more importantly, an #SDV is useless if you don't have the right processes, tools, and skills to maximize its potential at a global level to firstly reduce cost, THEN create added lifetime value through product enhancement. New safety-enabled Arm Automotive Enhanced (AE) processors will bring leading-edge Armv9 and server-class performance to AI-driven use cases. Future Arm Compute Subsystems (CSS) for Automotive will further reduce development time and cost, providing maximum flexibility for high-performance automotive systems.
