I read a note about life expectancy in the US erasing 20 years of gains after the metric dropped to 76 years. I felt it would be interesting to look at the life expectancy of a handful of places: 🌎China: 78.1 years 🌎US: 77.3 years 🌎UK: 80.9 years 🌎South Africa: 65.3 years 🌎Australia: 83.2 years 🌎Canada: 81.7 years 🌎New Zealand: 82.1 years 🌎Russia: 71.3 years 🌎Brazil: 74 years 🌎Germany: 80.9 years 🌎Netherlands: 81.4 years 🌎Norway: 83.2 years 🌎Nigeria: 52.9 years 🌎India: 70.2 years Might give you an idea of how many years you need to save for potentially. There is a great deal of information available to the public about medical sciences and how we'll live longer, and that's how most of the graphs looked until 2019. NEW—The GBD analysis forecasts a global increase in life expectancy, with notable gains projected in super-regions with historically lower life expectancies, such as sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting the ongoing trend toward convergence in life expectancy between countries, a trend set to continue through 2050. http://ms.spr.ly/6041Ykfwc

The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) forecasts significant improvements in global health by 2050, with life expectancy and age-standardised disease burden projected to improve. However, population growth and ageing will increase total DALYs, shifting the burden from CMNNs to NCDs. The study emphasizes the importance of sustained investment in CMNN prevention and treatment and highlights the potential health benefits of eliminating key risk factors. Come see WISE in action! Join us as we shape the future of subjective well-being measurement work at the OECD during our conference on New Frontiers in Subjective Well-being Measurement. In the decade since the OECD published its Guidelines on Measuring Subjective Well-being (https://lnkd.in/gfzhj-aN), more countries have incorporated these indicators into official national surveys. However, a recent stock-take (https://lnkd.in/gmjqbEG9) reveals that while life satisfaction data are largely harmonised, there is still work to be done in improving the international evidence base of affective and emotional states, and indicators capturing feelings of purpose, meaning, hope and the ability to thrive. To address these gaps and enhance international guidance, the WISE Centre is embarking on a project to develop a new and expanded version of the Guidelines. To kick-off this initiative and shape the research and policy agenda, this conference will bring together official data producers, policy makers and researchers from across the globe to discuss key topics for future OECD measurement recommendations. Topics to be discussed include: - Revisiting which affective states to measure, and how. - Crafting guidance on child subjective well-being indicators. - Introducing more globally inclusive approaches to measurement. It’s been four years since COVID restrictions were first introduced in Australia. While 2020 might not be a year we want to remember, it’s one we’ll likely never forget.
