How Did We Become Scared of the Roof? The Visual Why is there such an extreme reaction towards tragedy and near tragedy when it comes to vertical ventilation? Until now there has never been a specific, logical pursuit of this emotional reaction that calls for an end to the tactic. Images carry emotions. They also carry memories, information and biases. The repeated use of an image with a repeated message, such as “this is how we kill hundreds of firefighters,” creates a consistent belief. Images are superior to words when it comes to recalling and recognizing information, and word and image association influences readers’ thinking. An incorrect but constant and consistent message of fear, without proper context, keeps an irrational belief of fear alive. https://lnkd.in/ehnE65gh #DataNotDrama #firefighters #fear #riskmanagement #imagery #socialmedia #firefighting #firefightertraining

Fire Investigator at J.F. Goetz and Associates. Fire Officer, Lead Fire Instructor Superior Emergency Training.
The mindset of a fire department must be we are responding to the worst case scenario every single time. It’s said in a bunch of different way all over the fire service…it’s a lot easier to scale down at an emergency then it is to scale up. Once an incident starts bad, chances are it will end bad. #jerseyshoreemergencytraining #superiorfire #superior #fire #firefighter #firedept @jerseyshorefireresponse
