📈Overreaching is good! 😳Overtraining gets thrown around the exercise industry way too much! 🔥Someone gets sore… uh oh, they’re overtrained! 💪🏻Soreness is part of a training outcome, but it doesn’t mean you are overtrained. Likely just stimulated your physiology enough to produce a muscular perception of mechanical breakdown. ✔️It is extremely difficult to push your body (physiologically and psychologically) to an overtraining outcome. In the realm of EMS, workouts, and strength training, understanding motor unit recruitment and rate coding is very important. Motor units, which are collections of muscle fibers and the nerve cells that control them, are crucial for generating muscle contractions during exercise. At the beginning, only a few motor units are recruited, but as demand increases, our bodies eventually recruit more and larger units. This is a key factor in enhancing strength by activating a broad array of muscle fibers, especially those capable of the greatest force. Moreover, rate coding, or the frequency at which our nerves fire signals to the muscles. When a nerve rapidly sends signals, the muscle fibers have less time to relax between contractions. This results in a more forceful and sustained muscle contraction. Improving rate coding means muscles can produce more power and sustain contractions for longer periods, which significantly contributes to overall strength.
