Do you ever think to yourself, “I can’t comprehend how large companies are able to find new ways to get their product in the hands of everyone possible?” I often have this thought until I see some new way to reach the masses and I find myself always blown away. The toy and family entertainment company, Mattel, just released that they will be bringing colorblind accessibility to many of their card games. Around 300 million people deal with color blindness around the globe, which hinders those from being able to play many entertainment games. Mattel’s inclusivity effort is also a great way to bring in even higher sales. The company will be creating new additions to games such as Uno, Phase 10, Dos, Blokus, and Tumblin’ Monkeys that will include differention within the game’s cards. This new marketing strategy is a great way to help out those who deal with colorblindness while also bringing in higher revenue. To learn more about the additions, read the article below. Darin W. 🎉 Exciting news in the world of gaming! Mattel is taking a huge step towards inclusivity by making their popular games accessible to colorblind players. By the end of 2024, 80% of Mattel's gaming lineup will be colorblind-friendly, increasing to 90% by 2025. UNO cards will feature simple symbols to differentiate colors: ⭕ for red, 🟥 for blue, 🔺 for green, and ⭐ for yellow. Blokus and other games will have 3D patterns added to help identify colors. Look out for a new badge on packaging indicating colorblind accessibility. Mobile versions of UNO, Phase 10, and Skip-Bo will also include these features. This move builds on Mattel's previous efforts, including a braille version of UNO created in 2019. It's fantastic to see a major company prioritizing accessibility and ensuring everyone can enjoy their games! What are your thoughts on this initiative? We all play games. Whether it’s board games, card games, or computer games, the game’s designer tells us, the participants, what abilities we’ll have, what obstacles we’ll face, and, most importantly, what we’re going to care about. The way the game’s designer dictates what we’ll care about is through a point system, one where we’ll both keep points and be told how to earn more points. We can think of the consumer culture we live in as culture that hooks us on its games. It’s a culture that tells us to collect points, and encourages us to count points, not only for ourselves but for everyone around us too. #culture #consumer #ShareYourThoughts #TodaysPost
