On the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, we highlight Jack Darbyshire and Hugh Iorys Hughes who were part of a hidden army who worked for years behind the scenes and their weapons were hashtag #science and #engineering. Darbyshire developed a way to model wave patterns using iron buoys in the sea. He discovered they were able to predict wave patterns linked to weather events happening hundreds of miles away. Hughes submitted his designs for floating piers that would become harbors and stored thousands of tons of supplies, vehicles and men every day. As pictured, they still stand on the beaches of Normandy today. Their hashtag #accomplishments are testaments to their brilliance as #engineers. #normandy #ww2

What Might Have Been - Inflight view of a conceptual USAF Grumman F-29A FSW (Forward Swept Wing) lightweight fighter. The Grumman FSW proposal was selected over the Rockwell International design and was designated X-29A. Two NASA/USAF/DARPA/Grumman X-29A FSW technology demonstrators were built and flight tested from 1984 through 1992. Overall, the X-29A showed promise for future aircraft designs. The program demonstrated several new technologies as well as new procedures for proven technologies including, aeroelastic tailoring to control structural divergence and functional use of relatively large close-coupled canards for longitudinal control. In addition, the program validated control of an aircraft with extreme instability while still providing good handling qualities; use of three-surface longitudinal control; control effectiveness at high angles of attack and military utility of the overall design. However, no FSW fighter development was pursued. It is always interesting to speculate on what a follow-on FSW fighter might have looked like. Erik Simonsen Illustration

Relying on the status quo is not the solution.
" ..... U.S. manufacturers could learn from space launches, which like weapons systems, were plagued by delays and high costs. Then SpaceX came along. Founder Elon Musk ignored any NASA or Pentagon requirements he considered unnecessary, biographer Walter Isaacson has written. Musk sought cheap, mass-produced substitutes for costly specialized parts, such as a valve that cost about 30 times more than the automobile equivalent. SpaceX has helped slash the cost of space launches." Relying on the status quo is not the solution.
The U.S. Can Afford a Bigger Military. We Just Can’t Build It.

99% of all effort is wasted. Naval Ravikant, for me, has been the perfect embodiment of being rich, not famous. Here are the maxims shared by him on the Tim Ferriss Show. 1. If you can't see yourself working with someone for life, don't work with them for a day. 2. It's almost always possible to be honest and positive. 3. Earn with your mind, not with your time. 4. Mathematics is the language of nature. All the real benefits in life come from compound interest. 5. Free education is abundant, while the desire to learn is scarce. 6. There are no adults, everyone is making it up as they go along. Surely you've heard these before, but that makes the difference. Amateurs keep looking for new techniques while the pros stick to the boring basics for a long time.
