What might the future of buying a used car look like? 🚗 The students on the Digital Business and Innovation Management (DigiBIM) Master's program at FH Münster also asked themselves this question and developed a possible solution as part of an integrative project with the Digital Incubation Unit (DIU) at BASF Coatings. At the DIU, we identify and validate digital business models for #BASFCoatings, combining the agile mindset of a #startup with the expertise of a global corporation. 💡 Our challenge to the students: How can BASF Coatings leverage the growing trend of customer buying decisions based on digital solutions in cars to enhance customer satisfaction? The result: An app that reveals hidden defects when buying a used car, shares information on operating costs, and supports post-purchase maintenance and claims processing. Our Jury Lea Siepmann and Daplaah-Teng Aryene particularly liked not only the innovative idea, but above all the outstanding pitch with a used car buying simulation at the beginning and a product demo. This collaboration showcases how universities and companies can work together successfully, offering students practical experience while providing us with fresh perspectives to drive our #digitaltransformation. Many thanks to the students Fabienne Jäger, Alina Kallenbach, Anna Langosch and Louis Valtin, as well as to the lecturers Prof. Dr. Michael Dircksen, Prof. Dr. Philipp Bitzer and Prof. Dr. Mike Wasserman of FH Münster for the cooperation! #digitalinnovation #innovation #entrepreneurship

//CONFERENCE ALERT Looking forward to attends the ISPIM - International Society for Professional Innovation Management Conference in #Salzburg next week. It is one of the rare occasions where academics and professionals get together to discuss newest developments regarding #innovation, #RandD, #productdevelopment and similar topics. My topics this time: - Building capabilities and systems for strategic innovation (Hot Topic discussion) - Sustainable Innovation & Green Growth (Facilitator) - Return on Innovation in Private Equity (Conference Paper). It is great to present the topic of Return on Innovation together with my Master Student Robert Klostermeier. Together with HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Porsche Consulting and venture.idea we set-up an exciting study to understand the relartionships between innovation activities, capabilities and outcomes (EBIT, Revenue, Valuation...). Bottom line: #Innovation is a relevant, but yet underused #valuecreation driver for #privateequity. Building certain innovation #capabilities can help to unleash this potential... Looking forward to the discussions online and offline...who'll be there next week? pn or comment:-)

I'm very excited to share my journey at the Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM) in Valencia, an interdisciplinary program originating from LMU Munich – Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and Technical University of Munich (TUM), now expanded to Universitat de València and Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). This Honors Degree in Technology Management offers an incredible mix of courses in technologies, product development, engineering, economics, management, and entrepreneurship. Through real-world projects with industry leaders and a lot of team work, I will develop hands-on experience and practical skills that are crucial for innovation and leadership. CDTM's core courses—Trend Seminar, Managing Product Development, and Entrepreneurship Laboratory—equip students with the right tools to analyze trends, develop products, and implement business processes. The program's strong emphasis on collaboration with renowned partners from the industry ensures we are prepared to tackle contemporary challenges with cutting-edge solutions.💡 #TechnologyManagement #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #ProductDevelopment #Engineering #Economics #Management #CDTM #UV #UPV #MunichToValencia

When high-tech firms collaborate with their lead users, new (product) innovations are often produced! ❓ But how groundbreaking are these innovations? Are they Schumpeterian (i.e. disequilibrating and potentially impacting your entire industry) or Kirznerian (i.e. maintain existing standards and practice in the industry) opportunities? ❓ More importantly, under what conditions do collaborations between high-tech producer firms and their customers lead to the the disequilibrating Schumpeterian product opportunities? In our recent paper authored by Jeroen de Jong, Max Mulhuijzen, Katrin Merfeld, Coen Rigtering, Timo van Balen and Mathias Boënne, in JPIM Journal of Product Innovation Management, address exactly this question. ⚡ Our analyses show that lead userness of customers is indeed positively related to Schumpeterian product opportunities. But that this relationship is strongest when: 🚀 The collaboration is with a 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿, with whom the relationship started only recently; 🐭 When the involved customers are 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 market players; 🏭 The producer firm invest a lot in their 𝗥&𝗗 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, so as to better incorporate lead customer insights. So, as a high-tech firm you shouldn’t just work with any customer if you want the chance to create groundbreaking product innovations! Another Monday, another reason to celebrate: Yesterday we celebrated the recent appointment of Siavash Khajavi as assistant professor in operations management at the Aalto TUTA - Aalto University, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. As a professor one is first of all hired based on one's research merits, or one's potential for doing world-class research. And of course Siavash has cleared that bar. But in addition, there's a few other reasons why he's a great addition to our department and the university. First, he's interested in entrepreneurship, and has also recently founded a company. As an innovation university, it's important for Aalto University to have professors that are interested in entrepreneurship and are active in taking innovations from the lab to the market. Second, he's interested in technologies, like additive manufacturing, digital twins and artificial intelligence, that are at the intersection of our department and especially the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aalto University Department of Computer Science, but also others. There's a nice opportunity to work across departmental borders on impactful research. Third, he's an alumnus of our IEM program, so he knows our students and our community very well. But he has also come here from outside of Finland. This is a sweetspot for being able to drive meaningful change, by knowing how things work here but at the same time seeing things that others don't see. Very happy to have you as part of our faculty, Siavash! #aaltotuta #operationsmanagement #technologyentrepreneurship #multidisciplinarity #innovation
