Is it mid-week or mid-career? Only time will tell, and we’ll know by Friday. Which by coincidence is my last day at Taylor & Francis. I am leaving after 30+ years to set up a consultancy. That may seem like a good idea today. I’ll let you know next week how it feels. Two months ago I attended what was my last gig as Managing Director of Taylor & Francis Asia Pacific: the THE Asia Universities Summit hosted by Sunway University in Malaysia. I didn’t notice the ampersand in my name tag – the ‘&’ of Taylor & Francis has sometimes caused a problem in the digital era, so that is something I will leave behind. But I will keep a million wonderful memories; friendships with colleagues past and present all around the world; and a determination to continue to support academia – my new consultancy will focus on researchers and scientists who wish to advance their careers through publishing.
All the best, Barry. If you'd be back to England to visit some friends, please let me know.
Sounds fascinating, best of luck with it.
All the best in your new venture, Barry. I am thoroughly enjoying being a freelance consultant, since I made the leap last June
Congratulations Barry, I hope it goes well for you. I will always remember your photo of me on the phone doing business on the Great Wall, seems a long time ago. Hopefully see you in Frankfurt.
All the best Barry. Enjoy new horizons and thank you for all the collaboration
Barry, I wish you all the best for your next chapter
Will miss you Barry. My best wishes for another meaningful and enjoyable innings ahead! And let me know if you happen to visit New Delhi sometime!
Best of luck with your new gig, Barry! T&F has been so lucky to have you all these years. I hope our paths will cross again in the future.
Barry, all best wishes for your new venture! We first met in the mid-1980s - 40 years ago! - when we were corporate cousins in Nigel Farrow's publishing businesses. We stayed in touch after our ways parted and then became colleagues again when T-&-F acquired Routledge in 1998, working closely to grow and develop our ever-acquisitive book empire's sales in SE and E Asia. With your top team, instinctive understanding of those book markets, and appreciation of the author base in the region, the business went from strength to strength without losing its' soul. And it was fun! Keep well, and enjoy this next chapter. All best to you and YT and the family.
