Time to cast an eye out for new opportunities again. It’s been an interesting and educational year.  As many of you know, after 30 years in the classroom and 12 years in administration, I decided a change of pace was in order this past year.  I was hired as a consultant to design an international school for Tainan, Taiwan, which I would lead as principal once we were licensed. Our team did a terrific job and designed one hell of an institution.  Taking all of those years of experience and knowledge then combining them with latest research resulted in an outstanding proposal.  At roughly 300 pages, the proposal’s underlying philosophy, the curriculum, the proposed structure and learning and work environment, all would have been terrific.  We had the documentation, we had the lead team, we had the campus, and we had the funding.  We even had a consultant from Taipei who told us it was the strongest proposal for a Taiwan “experimental school” license she had ever seen. However, we did not reckon with the power of local politics and entrenched interests.  So, sad to say, we did not get a permit.  Now I more fully understand why Tainan is pretty much the only substantial city in Taiwan without this kind of school.  We’re still considering options moving forward, as it’s been a truly fascinating learning experience, but it’s also time to face a bit of reality.  So, with the new international school hiring season opening in the coming weeks, I may see some of you out and about as I start looking at opportunities to return to international education for SY 2024-25.  In either leadership or just fully back in the classroom, it will be interesting to see where the next step on the path leads.

As a final year student majoring in Political Science at IIUM Malaysia, my journey has been one of continuous exploration and growth. Throughout my academic tenure, I've delved deep into the intricacies of political systems, theories, and global dynamics. My passion for understanding how societies govern themselves and interact on the international stage has been the driving force behind my studies. Being an ESFJ-T, I've always found joy and fulfillment in connecting with people and understanding their perspectives. This trait has not only enriched my academic experience but also fueled my commitment to contributing positively to society. Whether through group projects, class discussions, or extracurricular activities, I've embraced opportunities to collaborate, lead, and make a difference in my community. Beyond the confines of the classroom, I've actively sought out opportunities to apply my knowledge in practical settings.
