  • To achieve excellence in our schools, we must center the voices of the students, families, and educators most affected by the shortcomings in our current system.
Dr. Daniel J. Hanneken

My action research has proven that all students can learn at high levels when we establish a Professional Learning Community (PLC) with all of our stakeholders.

I’ve always said that my (our) work over the last 20 years (17 as a Principal) that all children can learn at high levels when we build (DeFour) Professional Learning Communities with our stakeholders (educators, parents, students, etc.). We’ve proven that by working together to give every vested participant a voice, vote, and continuous involvement in everything that happens in our school is how you achieve excellence, equity, and inclusion. Innovation Schools in MA was the answer to the shortcomings in our horable education system but that initiative was destroyed by the status quo. In Fitchburg, MA, our Autonomous (Innovation) School which centered on this awesome philosophy moved from the bottom 20% of schools in MA to the Top 25% in three years because of our colleagial, collaborative, and site based approach. The Fitchburg good ole boys and girls destroyed the 25th Innovative School because we did what they couldn’t, have a successful education system for all of our stakeholders. We were a school where 77% of students were classified as High Needs and we positively changed their outcomes with this approach! We reached Level 1 status only to be attacked by the status quo. We did what FPS & FSU couldn’t. New leadership now!!!
