"So, the story goes – the industrial development does not align with the stated environmental goals in the plan – but also, the land use change in the area show that the city has longer history of neglecting environmental goals." Our latest blog delves deep into the contentious balance between urban expansion and environmental preservation. Highlighting the disconnect in the LEAP Innovation District and beyond, we explore how recent developments, like the controversial industrial project, clash with long-established environmental goals. 🔗 Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gEYZZuNk

A major moment for Nature! Last night a deal was agreed on the #NatureRestorationLaw - EU co-legislators in this picture below agreed on an EU target to restore at least 20% of land and 20% of sea areas by 2030 and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050. To reach these targets, EU countries must restore at least 30% of habitat types covered by the new law to a good condition by 2030, increasing to 60% by 2040, and 90% by 2050. At The Nature Conservancy we are also thrilled to see that this agreed text includes: 🌱 RIVERS! An obligation for Member States to turn at least 25 000 km of rivers into free-flowing rivers by 2030, and maintain restored natural river connectivity. 🌱 FINANCE! A new provision tasking the Commission with submitting an overview of the financial resources available at EU level, an assessment of the funding needs for implementation, and an analysis identifying any funding gaps. We still have to ensure this Law passes final hurdles but for now, this is cause for celebration #ForNature. Congratulations and special thanks from The Nature Conservancy to all our colleagues, partners and friends Andras Krolopp Julia Boverhoff Dragana Mileusnić Sophie Trémolet Max Ricker Bridget Nurre Jennions Barbara Kuznik Marianne Kleiberg Tara Moberg Joshua Royte Andrew Deutz Linda Krueger Jeffrey Parrish Andrea Erickson Quiroz Eurelectric Forum for the Future of Agriculture Cesar Luena Jutta Paulus EU Environment and Climate and so many more!
