The VIN Art configurator generates high-quality portraits of individual Porsche vehicles. Rather than a generic poster, the user receives a personalized work of art and truly unique addition to their home.
But how does this work from a tech perspective? For what might seem like a simple product, there are in fact a huge amount of datapoints that go into each portrait.
The key to unlocking the data is the vehicle identification number. Once the user enters this number in the configurator, it’s decoded via connections to several interfaces and servers. We at Porsche Digital can then access the data – which is stored in various databases – and the individual configuration of the car, including vehicle images, consumption data, the model series and any special equipment.
In order to generate the art prints, renderings of the vehicles are required, which we receive from Porsche AG. Thanks to an underlying algorithm that we built in-house, the overall design of the print adapts perfectly to the details of the original vehicle, such as the vehicle body color. We can then present the user with a set of matching backgrounds in various styles that fit the configuration of their car, creating a harmonious work of art.
