Architecture Today and UK Architects Declare have launched the worlds first Regenerative Architecture Index (RAI) as a means of benchmarking practices on their regenerative projects, policies, working practices and actions. Entires are open until the 17th May and results will be published in September 2024. #regenerative #architecture
Entries are open for the inaugural Regenerative Architecture Index! Launched with UK Architects Declare, the Regenerative Architecture Index is a means of benchmarking architects on #regenerative projects, policies, working practices and actions. Participating practices are invited to answer questions both on the practice itself and on the projects it delivers, under three broad headings: - Part 1: Being a good ancestor, looks at evidence of long-term thinking and a concern for the #wellbeing of #futuregenerations. - Part 2: Co-evolving with nature, looks at measures to support a mutually enriching coexistence with the natural world. - Part 3: Creating a just space for people, looks at issues around inclusivity, #diversity, #equality and #engagement. The deadline for entries is Wednesday 17th May. Find out more and enter in the link below ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ePCJC8hK #regenerativedesign #regenerative #regenerativeleadership

We’re eagerly anticipating the launch of the Regenerative Architecture Index (RAI) – launching this month by Architecture Today and UK Architects Declare. Embracing a transformative approach, the RAI diverges from conventional rankings by spotlighting regenerative policies, actions, and working practices. As we gear up to participate, we're reflecting on the ways Coffey works to ‘be a good ancestor,’ ‘co-evolve with nature,’ and ‘create a just space for people.’ For us, it’s a shared commitment to education, learning from challenges, and paving the way for a sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/eKWdYsmS

I just published a blog post entitled "Bio-Modern Architecture, New Perspective of Future Lifestyle" over new ideas of applying circular economy and biomimicry principles in modern architecture. Looking forward to your feedback. Special thanks to professor #RuthCherrington our module lead at Exeter University.(https://lnkd.in/eCWdSsnC)

The Blueprint of Tomorrow: Architecture as a Reflection of Our World In the heart of every city lies the pulse of its architecture – a silent narrative that tells the story of its people, history, and aspirations. 🏛️🌐 Today, I want to share a vision where architecture transcends its physical form to become a catalyst for social change and environmental stewardship. Where every building is more than a shelter; it’s a statement of our commitment to the future. 🌟 Design with Purpose: Crafting spaces that serve, uplift, and empower communities. 🔄 Circular Economy in Construction: Embracing materials and methods that regenerate rather than deplete. 🤖 Tech-Enabled Creativity: Harnessing the power of technology to push the boundaries of what’s possible in design. Join me in reimagining the role of architecture in our lives. Let’s build not just for today, but for the generations to come. #FutureOfArchitecture #UrbanNarratives #TechInDesign #CircularEconomy

Navigation in #mixedreality is something that is really tricky to explain, but I think this visual tells the tale a bit. In a typical modeling program you would be zooming around the model and setting the camera view where you like it. When you want to see the your project at a model scale, you zoom far out and to get that center-for-ants feel🐜 Users can do the same movement in Arkio but instead of only moving your position to effect the sense of scale, you can scale yourself to be larger than the model. This for sure isn't something new in the immersive tech space (Tiltbrush is a good example of the scale system) but I haven't really seen it applied with mixed reality👀 Here, at the start of the post, you can see Johan's avatar at a 1:1 scale. Prior to the start, he had setup a couple of masses that captured the existing buildings and other context but he modeled this all out from the location you see at the start. When you see his avatar scale up and fly over to the other side of the water is that key navigation moment 🌠 He scales himself up to see his project at model scale, giving him a better view and angle of the massing while still being on the other side of the water. Edits and changes are made to the massing while being at that god scale, and whenever he wants to check on the result he can teleport back to 1:1 scale and see his progress at a specific vantage point with specific context. Of course there is plenty of additional tech embedded in this example that make this functionality come together. For example, what helps show this feature is having someone recording this from secondary location to show the physical and virtual parts of Johan (thanks Embla!🙌). They all work together to tell a bit of the tale ya know! oh, and it's the last day for the Build Beyond design challenge!⏳ https://lnkd.in/eGSTrucQ
It’s Johan’s city now. 🏙️ Last day to submit your entry to our Build Beyond design challenge! Submissions close at 11:59pm ET. https://lnkd.in/eYWmPKnn #arkio #design #buildbeyond #aec #architecture #mixedreality

In this episode we chat with Ben Wan, Principal at RODE Architects Inc. about the roles architects can play in reducing the impact of climate change on our planet. Given that over 40% of all energy produced is used to run the buildings, how can architects reduce the energy consumption of these structures is the question we asked Ben. One of the goals is to use sustainable materials, may they be ones made out of recycled materials, easily recyclable, or far more durable than conventional products. We talked in detail about the Brucewood homes, a series of three single-family homes in West Roxbury, nestled into a rocky hillside overlooking the V.F.W. Parkway - Boston’s first internationally certified Passive Houses and designed by RODE Architects. Massing, orientation and a compact design are the starting points of designing an energy efficient home. The Brucewood homes are airtight and have heavily-insulated shells with the facade R values of 40 with roof R Values of 60 - thus significantly reducing energy usage for heating and cooling all year round. Fair and just transition is crucial. Sustainable solutions and in this context housing needs to be accessible. RODE Architects, a mission driven firm is now developing 106 units of family-oriented housing in their 52 New Street Project, that plans to be Passive House certified.
