Empowering the LGBT+ community together. The NYC PRIDE March was a celebration of love, diversity, and acceptance.
As Pride Month comes to an end, it’s important that we recognize that work is required of each of us, all year round, to drive inclusivity and progression for the LGBT+ community.
We are proud to support our LGBT+ community at Barclays and beyond. 🏳️🌈

🌈 This #PrideMonth, let's celebrate diversity and strive for a more inclusive world.
Inclusivity isn't just about acceptance; it's about actively creating spaces where everyone can thrive. It's about listening to experiences that differ from our own, educating ourselves and others, and standing up against discrimination in all its forms.
Together, we can foster an environment where everyone is free to be their authentic selves. Let's turn our support into action—not just this month, but year-round.

🌈 Useful insight for LGBT+ Network Sponsors & Chairs struggling to be clear on their purpose - the most important thing for your networks is to provide a safe space and sense of belonging for LGBT+ colleagues.

Did you know that February is LGBT History Month?
The date coincides with the abolition of Section 28 of the Local Government Act in 2003, and serves as an opportunity for employers to take meaningful steps in supporting LGBT equality.
What do you have planned this month to show your support and commitment to lasting inclusivity? 🙌

Today I was able to virtually attend Klaudia Matasovska talk on 'School staff and pupils and their experience of LGBT+/SEND intersection'
The impact of fear that adults have regarding LGBT+ discussions with SEND children was evident - Such an interesting and valuable piece of research.

So much more needs to be gone to support and protect our SEND LGBT+ kids in schools.

As we reflect on LGBT History Month, it's important to commit to the continuation of inclusivity policies year round.
LGBT History Month is a great opportunity for reflection and shared learning and understanding. But truly inclusive workplaces require more than symbolic gestures. Going forward, organisations should be focusing on developing and enforcing policies that ensure zero tolerance for discrimination. 🚫
How are you continuing your support into March and beyond?

Everyone has a purpose and a place in the world. Being open-minded is essential for personal growth and understanding. It involves being receptive to a wide variety of ideas, arguments, and information. Open-mindedness allows us to consider other perspectives, even when we disagree with them.
Here are some characteristics of open-minded people:
Curiosity: They are curious to hear what others think.
Willingness to be challenged: They can have their ideas challenged without feeling angry.
Empathy. They consider other people's feelings and what they might be thinking.
Humble about their knowledge: They recognize that they don't know everything.
Belief in others' right to express their views: Even if they disagree, they believe others have the right to share their beliefs and thoughts.
Being open-minded doesn't mean you must sympathize with every ideology, but understanding the factors that lead to different ideas can help you find ways to persuade people to change their minds.
As a leader, understanding other perspectives is crucial. It's called perspective-taking, which allows you to see a situation from someone else's point of view. By doing this, you can better explore past events or make informed decisions.
Remember, reality can vary based on different perspectives, but being open-minded helps us get closer to shared reality. So let's keep our minds open and embrace healthy curiosity! 😊

Any government that denies basic human rights and scapegoats an entire group of people...
...Through name calling, dehumanising, spreading false information and restrictive policy, is alarming and a warning to us all.
No one is truly ever safe and free, until all of us are.
What I've been hearing and seeing from political leaders is uncannily similar to the dehumanising rhetoric of the past and plays into a dangerous us and them mentality.
Whatever your beliefs and political background we should all be worried about how easily our political leaders use these tactics and phrases and ignore the very real impact of increased hate crimes, violence and fears on the communities they talk about.
It is no coincidence that racialised communities, refugees and asylum seekers and transgender people have been targeted.
This is not political or civil debate, which is necessary and productive.
This is artificial fear cultivation and political play to distract from the real issues and fears that many people have about the cost of living, healthcare, housing, climate change and our relationship with other countries...
Please critically assess what is being presented as fact and ask, 'who benefits from this rhetoric and us being divided?
Not the average person...

🏳️⚧️ A statement from the LGBT+ Sector's Leadership:
LGBT+ organisations and our allies across the country are united in saying enough! Trans+ and Intersex people are being let down by a Government that wants to deny their existence and their safety.
We call upon LGBT+ people, friends, allies, family members, businesses & voluntary sector organisations to stand up and say enough.
We encourage everyone to share this statement far and wide, speak up in support of Trans and Intersex communities and stand together in solidarity

In the past two decades, Asian Americans have become one of the fastest growing racial or ethnic groups in the United States.
The 2020 presidential election saw historic voter turnout by the AAPI electorate. AAPI voters had the highest growth of any racial group in 2020, with a 47% increase.
The Pew Research Center affirms that Asian Americans have been the fastest-growing group of eligible voters in the United States over roughly the past two decades and since 2020. Their number has grown by 15%, or about 2 million eligible voters, in the past four years. That’s faster than the 3% growth rate for all eligible voters during that span.
The data is clear, and it confirms what we’ve known. AAPI - or more inclusively, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander voters are critical in the outcome of elections. Let’s engage this growing block and make the case for Equality!

May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

I'm really excited to be launching the Plus Importance Project, the UK's first registered charity with a focus on the + of LGBT+!
People that identify fully or partly in the + (including asexuals, intersex people, pansexuals, non-binary people and many more identities) continually experience erasure which has contributed to a lack of rights, respect and representation. Additionally, public understanding of identities in the + is incredibly low.
And the (currently limited) research shows that we're experiencing negative consequences as a result, for example:
➕ Asexual people are most likely to experience a negative response when coming out
➕ Intersex people are most likely to experience physical or sexual attacks
➕ Non-binary people are particularly likely to have felt over the last year that life was not worth living
We're changing this by providing training and support to organisations, educating the public and conducting research.
With more and more people (particularly young people) identifying in the +, it's particularly important for organisations to improve their understanding and make inclusive changes. We're currently looking for 12 Bristol-based organisations to be involved in our pilot scheme and help refine our offer.
Please share this opportunity with anyone who might be interested and help us create a world where people in the + feel respected, validated and included!
With more and more people identifying in the + of LGBT+, we're here to support all organisations to understand + identities and make inclusive changes.
We're looking for 12 Bristol-based organisations to take part in our pilot where we'll provide training and support to improve understanding, change practices and develop a more inclusive culture. Where practicable, we aim to offer this pilot scheme free of charge to participating organisations.
