The world's construction sector is set for a modest increase in output, a survey of more than 3,000 construction firms indicates. The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors has released its third quarter Global Construction Monitoring Report based on a survey of firms around the world. It indicates that despite the slowdown in building construction as a result of higher interest rates, the continued rollout of public sector works means that the outlook for activity remains broadly positive. Construction prices and cost across Australia continue to rise notwithstanding a sharp slowdown in residential buildings. The latest data from the ABS indicates that output prices during the March quarter rose by 1.6 percent in building construction and 1.3 percent in civil construction. Since COVID, prices have risen by 29.7 percent for building construction and 21.3 percent for civil/heavy engineering construction. This is concerning as pressure on resources is expected to intensify further as work picks up on housing and energy projects. Across 2024, construction cost management firm Rawlinsons expects output prices for building construction to increase by between 4.0 and 6.0 percent across Australia’s capital cities. #construction #building #constructioncosts #civilconstruction #engineering https://lnkd.in/gb-Mr-K8
