Another powerful film on gender equity, "We're not there yet" by The Clinton Foundation. This is a creative take on the invisibility of women in media and beyond. Some particularly startling facts are: 👉 1/4 girls worldwide is married before her 18th birthday. 👉 Women only make up 5% of Fortune500 CEOs. #NotThereNoCeilings #IWD2024 #AcceleratingGenderEquality #ThreeBarriers

As 2023 comes to a close, I wanted to share a few highlights from Starling's #WithWomen network. Did we overachieve? Obviously. Are we going to undersell it? No. So here we go (special thanks to Fara Akbari for putting these together): 💪 Eight months since launching, the network has grown into a community with 12.5% of Starling's total employees. We've heard from others in the industry that 10% is deemed 'successful' and we surpassed that (I think) within a few months. ❌ After launching our new feature, Hide References, Charity Wood led a Q&A in collaboration with Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA) to raise awareness about abusive payment references and explain why our new feature is so important for survivors of domestic abuse – who are predominantly women. 👚 I hosted a Q&A in collaboration with our charity partner, Smart Works Charity, and interviewed one of their clients, Kate. In the UK, a quarter of unemployed women are out of work for over three years, while 45% are unemployed for over a year. Smart Works is on a mission to tackle this through coaching and dressing. 📢 For Black History Month, #WithWomen co-chair Nike Shoge, BA Hons FCCA IRMCert hosted a panel with Lucy Lepe and Christina W.. The group shared stories and insight into their careers and reflected on what Black History Month means to them. I could've listened to them all day (not least because Lucy promised me Bey references). 💡 On Fridays, we run a Slack series where we spotlight forgotten women from history. I genuinely can't remember who came up with this, as it was a group brainwave (isn't that the best kind of idea?), but it's our most popular series. Some #FYIFriday highlights: Grace O'Malley (pirate), Josephine Cochrane (inventor), Evelyn Dove (performer), Helen Sherman (astronaut), Frances Thompson (activist) and Lise Meitner (scientist). To name a few. 📚We launched our book club with 'Invisible Women' by Caroline Criado-Perez (photo is her dedication page). Our team led the open discussion via Zoom and, to be honest, I wasn't sure people joining online would feel comfortable to speak up. Turns out, there was no need to worry. Comments and anecdotes and questions were flying in and we almost went over time. Special shout out to Jade Shyne for monitoring all the virtual hand raises! Genuinely can't wait for what's in store for 2024. We have big plans. Thank you to everyone who has got involved this year, especially to co-chair and cheerleader extraordinaire Nike Shoge, BA Hons FCCA IRMCert

Check out this article from Exhibition News about our efforts to become leaders in accessible events! Dr Shani Dhanda Steve Clarke
Exhibition News' Mike Fletcher learns how ROAR B2B is going the extra mile to ensure its exhibitions are accessible and inclusive for all by partnering with Dr Shani Dhanda, recognised as the UK’s most influential disabled person. “ROAR acquired Naidex in 2019 and as the new custodian of this 50-year-old show, we felt strongly that we should be taking a leadership position around accessibility in exhibitions and practising more of what we preach. That’s when I reached out to Shani for help.” Steve Clarke Read more here... https://lnkd.in/eFYDGKFh

Incorporating the transformative message of the song "THE GIFT" by Blue used for the edited video of this Olympic ice dance pair champions, we are reminded of the profound impact of appreciating and ELEVATING WOMEN in all facets of life, including the business world. The song's narrative, emphasizing giving more than receiving, mirrors the urgent need to address and rectify gender inequities in the corporate sector, leadership roles, and broader societal contributions made by women. Recent statistics highlight the challenges women face in the workplace, particularly in leadership positions. Despite women's aspirations and capabilities, the proportion of roles held by women dramatically falls from entry-level positions to the C-suite, with women occupying nearly 50% of entry-level roles but only 25% in the C-suite, and a mere 12% in STEM roles. This discrepancy underscores the critical need to rewrite women's history, ensuring their contributions are recognized and valued equally. The "Women in the Workplace 2023 report" by McKinsey further illuminates the obstacles women encounter, such as microaggressions, which significantly impact their psychological safety and career progression. Women who experience these microaggressions are four times more likely to experience burnout. Despite these challenges, the importance of flexible work arrangements is highlighted, benefiting not only women, who disproportionately handle childcare and household duties, but all employees by promoting a better work-life balance. To address these disparities, companies are encouraged to track outcomes for women's representation, empower managers as change agents, confront microaggressions, maximize the potential of flexible work, and mend the foundational disparities that hinder women's advancement. Moreover, investing in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is seen as crucial for the future success of companies, with 60% of companies increasing their financial and staffing investments in DEI over the past year. In tying this back to the essence of "The Gift," it's clear that the path to a better future for all lies in recognizing and amplifying the contributions and appreciating the GIFTS OF WOMEN.🎁 Just as the song suggests happiness is found in giving and supporting others, so too can society find greater harmony and progress by elevating women in all areas of life. This commitment will pave the way for REWRITING WOMEN'S HISTORY, achieving pay equity, and ensuring women's rightful place in leadership roles across the board. Happy Women’s History Month!💕 3.24.2024 Sunday #Women #WomensHistory #WomensHistoryMonth #DEI #Diversity #IWD #GrowthConsciousness #Elevate #FutureofWork https://lnkd.in/e6agW4sD

Must read article eventprofs - “If you’re always having to retrofit your event design, it’ll cost more in the long run and the aesthetic may suffer. Instead, design for accessibility from the outset and communicate it prominently so that disabled people don’t have to double-check whether or not they can attend. The Journey to finding my voice and increasing my visibility! Warning it's triggering if you can identify with some of the lived experiences shared but the insight is powerful to build confidence and courage to start your own journey to finding your voice and increasing your visibility. I joined Joyce O. on a 'Different Perspective' in collaboration with Frog Systems Limited. The conversation is fully loaded highlighting the paradox of being hyper visible yet invisible as a minority in the workplace and explores the issues that contributes to this phenomenon such as lack of representation, lack of role models, lack of mentor, lack of sponsors and how that affects self esteem and confidence which are foundational to success. These issues are complex and interconnected presenting major barriers to success and advancement in the workplace and in life. We must keep having these important conversations in order to raise awareness, help break barriers and level the playing field for success and advancement I am passionate about supporting young black women who are starting out their career journey to navigate this complex landscape. If my story has resonated with you please reach out, let's chat. https://lnkd.in/eMH4fre7 #representation #rolemodels #mentors #sponsors #voice #visibility

Strategic Storytelling | Storytelling For Quantifiable Change | Commercial, PR, Social Impact Campaigns |
Storytelling powerfully fills gaps that lead to misunderstanding and lack of acceptance. Here We Are helps fill that gap in a time when 71% of Americans say that they have never met a transgender person. There is so much to say about Here We Are - a powerful new campaign we are proud to launch today with GLAAD. For now, please spend some time getting to know Gio, Ashton and Nadya on the website - share it with your friends and communities and let everyone know that every person has the right to be their authentic selves, free from fear. We can break down the barriers of misinformation and political rhetoric simply by getting to know each other. Acceptance is easy - it's human nature.
At a time when anti-transgender rhetoric and legislation are growing at alarming and dangerous rates, it is crucial that Americans hear from transgender people about their lives and how the current political and cultural climate can be harmful to them. Today, we launched “Here We Are,” a ground-breaking video campaign that shares the real stories of transgender people, in a time when 71% of Americans claim they’ve never met someone who is transgender and when anti-transgender rhetoric from politicians and some in the media continues to rise. Most Americans are exposed to trans issues through media-biased narratives. GLAAD and GROUND Media’s new campaign dispels these misconceptions to introduce Americans to transgender people and their supportive families who showcase that trans identity is real and that everyone deserves to be who they are and live safely. To win the @sheamoisture first prize means that I can now starting a community called "Black Girls of Australia" which will serve several purposes: 1. Representation: It will provide a platform for Black girls and women in Australia to have their voices heard and their experiences validated. Representation is crucial for fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment within marginalized communities. 2. Support and Empowerment: The platform and community will create a safe space for Black girls to support and uplift each other, sharing resources, advice, and encouragement. This can be particularly important in combating feelings of isolation, discrimination, addressing trauma, mental health and physical health. 3. Visibility and Awareness: By highlighting the experiences and achievements of Black girls and women in Australia, the community can raise awareness about issues they face, such as racism, stereotyping, and systemic inequalities. This can contribute to broader social change and advocacy efforts. 4. Networking and Community Building: It facilitates connections and networking among Black girls and women across Australia, fostering a sense of community and solidarity. This can lead to collaborations, mentorship opportunities, and friendships. 5. Celebration of Diversity: It celebrates the diversity within the Black community in Australia, recognizing that experiences and identities can vary widely based on factors such as ethnicity, nationality, religion, and socio-economic background. Overally, starting "Black Girls of Australia" is an empowering and important initiative that can have a positive impact on the lives of Black girls and women across the country and nation of Australia. Thank you to everyone who has gone ahead and voted for me. #sheamoisture #blackgirlsofaustralia https://lnkd.in/gQwZyaZA
