Maternal and child mortality is a critical healthcare issue around the world. In 2020, almost 800 women died daily from preventable causes linked to pregnancy and childbirth with 95% of all maternal deaths occurring in low-and-middle-income countries (LMIC). In an effort to help change this, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has granted GE HealthCare more than $44 million to create user-friendly, AI-assisted ultrasound imaging auto-assessment tools. These tools will seek to aid healthcare professionals—even those without specialized training or experience with ultrasound—with clinical decision information to support more effective obstetric and lung screening ultrasound scans across maternal and fetal care as well as pediatric lung health, with a goal of expanding access to LMIC and across diverse sites of care. Why should private obstetricians & gynaecologists use social media?🤔 Here's my top reason it is so important to be active ... Personal connection and community building. Social media allow us to break the traditional boundaries of healthcare delivery, connect with potential patients on a more personal level, and build an engaged community. It’s a powerful tool for demonstrating your knowledge, compassion, and dedication to maternal and fetal health. 🤰👩⚕️ What better way to establish trust and credibility than by providing valuable, relatable content and addressing common pregnancy concerns. Engaging in social media is not just about growing our practices; it's about growing relationships. If you aren't utilizing social media to grow your practice yet, reach and I will give you some pointers to get you started! :)

Founder @Preggify| Pregnancy-related deaths rob the world of mothers - an unacceptable injustice. I advocate relentlessly for women's health
Say After Me: My Hand Is Not A Thermometer!!! She called in and casually mentioned that her baby was having high temperature. With our default response I asked " what's the reading on a thermometer?". She said she traveled and wasn't with it. Then quickly walked into a nearby pharmacy store to check it. "Hello Doctor, it's 41.2 degree". Can you say one more time? The back of my hand is not a thermometer. If my baby's body is hot, I MUST use a thermometer to measure the degree. We quickly intervened with a few home remedies and further help. This is why we are advocating for convenient access to maternal and child health care. Whether a woman is at home, at work or on vacation, she shouldn't be cut off from medical care. It's was a new location, on the evening of a public holiday, how long do you think she would have spent before locating a nearby hospital and waiting to get help? With our home remedies and prompt intervention, baby was stabilized first. Who knows what would have happened if she remained in that assumption that it was just the usual temperature because the baby was teething? Maybe, febrile convulsion, severe red blood cell breakdown or worse outcome. Once again, I am glad that PREGGIFY intervened right on time and baby is doing just fine. I have a good news for you 😊 Preggify is on Techcabal Daily (TC daily). See link in the comment. Now is the best time to start getting round-the-clock pregnancy education and support from anywhere you're. Check the link in the comment

What’s a missed opportunity for health systems when it comes to maternal health? Not engaging new mothers enough after delivery. Nine months of investment in care, frequent check-ins. Maybe a 6-week follow-up visit. Then… ? It's well-established that complications related to the perinatal care journey can occur well after childbirth. More than a third of mothers experience lasting health issues related to pregnancy globally. Why does high-touch, connected care often come to a virtual halt just a few weeks after giving birth? → The momentum of care should continue postpartum and transition to the primary setting. Making sure maternal patients have a PCP. Connecting them to community resources. Scheduling a preventive screening. If healthcare truly wants to address the trends in maternal mortality, supporting educated, proactive, and engaged healthcare consumers who understand every step of their care journeys is crucial. This won't be easy to accomplish in light of workforce shortages, patient access challenges, ineffective communication, and other barriers. But the maternal care crisis can't wait. Inspired by a great conversation with Jenna Phillips!

One in eight moms in the U.S. experience postpartum depression. In some cases, conditions can be more acute, such as with psychosis — which affects anywhere from 1-3 moms out of 1,000. Sadly, if left untreated, the turmoil resulting from mental health issues can lead postpartum patients to suicide — the rates of which climbed from 0.2% in 2007 to 0.6% in 2017, according to one study. In 2023, suicide remained a leading cause of death among postpartum mothers between six weeks and one year after giving birth. We're addressing the three pivotal ways digital health can help providers stay connected to mothers after childbirth and help improve postpartum mental health over on our blog. Link in comments 👇

Why is research important? 🔎 Patients are the real experts in their disease, and their experience forms a fundamental basis for research. Especially in diseases in pregnancy, it is crucial that patients become partners and share their unique experience that can ultimately lead to better outcomes and solutions. Furthermore, by engaging in research, patients can gain a deeper understanding of their condition and treatment options, which can help them advocate for their health. Research can also support other patients with similar conditions in the future. How to get involved? 💬 There are many ways in which a patient and former patients can participate in research. One way to contribute is just by sharing your lived experience with the disease, helping healthcare teams better understand the impact of living with a condition. No specialist knowledge or qualifications are required; your lived experience is invaluable. Any individual can contribute to research and help create a better future for those patients to come. ➡️ Would you be willing to contribute? If you have been affected by HDFN (Hemolytic Disease of the fetus and newborn), you can participate in an interesting research project called NOMINATE: https://lnkd.in/eTm6FWM9 #Science #Research #Health #HealthCare
