Team SportAI extends our sincere congratulations to Carlos Alcaraz on winning the 2024 French Open! 🙌 🎾 🏆 Being the youngest player to win a Grand Slam on all three surfaces is nothing short of phenomenal. Vamooos! 💪 💪
Great explanation of this sublime win:
- the variety of shot and cunning drop shot
- the mental game: “controlling the controllables”
The last point bears explanation:
I do ultra-marathons🏃🏻♂️⛰️ and having done two 100km races (and crashed out of a third), many things can go wrong (weather, stomach issues, injury flare up). One simply cannot allowing yourself to be depressed by things outside of your control. The mantra I use comes from Damian Browne (rowed across Atlantic alone). I focus on:
1. My technique / process
2. My energy
3. Self-talk
4. Breath
Control the controllables. Thanks Marius Barnard

It was a pleasure to share my views on BBC News with Monica Miller yesterday evening.
What a gripping 5 set performance by Carlos Alcaraz to clinch the 2023 Wimbledon Men’s Singles Championship.
The variety of shot selection and how comfortably Alcaraz converted Championship point, even after faltering with a drop shot on the opening point of that game was impressive. Alcaraz is a humble and exciting young talent, who accepted the trophy and a new crowd of followers with open arms.
There is no doubt that the popular World No. 1 has his sights set on multiple grand slam titles.

This isn't about transitioning into a career or conventional path to a "normal life". You're going to learn there was more to you than sports. Now is the time to discover that!
Jack Draper's Triumph 🎾A Changing of the Guard at Queen'
Jack Draper's remarkable victory over defending champion Carlos Alcaraz at Queen's Club has the potential to inspire and motivate young athletes, much like Sir Andy Murray’s endurance and achievements. Draper’s mental skills that define true champions are clearly evident.
Draper's self-belief in the face of a top-10 player, shows how confidence can be a foundation for success. Emotional control for calm and focus in high pressure situations, helped him save three match points against Alcaraz.
Draper's strong desire to excel and willingness to work on transforming his game from defensive to attacking, highlights the significance of embracing change.
The stage is set for a changing of the guard, and the future of the sport rests firmly in the capable hands of a new breed of champions, led by the likes of Jack Draper. A young phenom whose talent and relentless work ethic have marked him as a future star of the game.
"Talent is God-given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful." John Wooden - With this mindset, we can guide our athletes to excel with humility.

Loved watching Alcaraz become just the fifth different man to win Wimbledon in the last 20 years. I'm only a casual tennis fan but I appreciated the level of skill Alcaraz showed. He backed himself and played bold shots, expressing his personality through his play. When a shot didn't come off, he didn't withdraw but doubled down on his style of play and more often than not followed up a mistake with a sublime winning shot.
He engaged with the crowd really well, raising his fist in salute when he made a big play and smiling in response to the increasingly loud cheers for him, the young hungry challenger to the seven-time champion Djokovic.
He showed incredible composure in key moments. He nearly went two sets down but held his nerve and turned it around to make it one each and changed the momentum of the match. He didn't blink in the third set as a 25 minute Deuce went back and forth before he seized it and put himself in the lead.
Naturally, I watched his winning speech with interest and noted his humility. He said he was proud of himself regardless of whether he won or not. He thanked his team who had prepared him to play on the unfamiliar surface of grass, just his fourth-ever tournament on this surface. Going to show that behind every individual performance is a team of people who help bring it together.
He also told lots of jokes and had a beaming smile, winning over the Wimbledon crowd not just for this match, but probably the rest of his career.
It's worth remembering he did all this in his second language, after playing for nearly five hours.
Tennis players, like speakers, are individual performers. So I think there is a lot we as speakers can learn from the new champion.
1) Stick to your style, don't try and be something you're not. This will pay off more times than it doesn't.
2) Engage with the audience, they are a vital part of your performance.
3) Keep putting yourself in pressure situations, this is how you learn to deal with the pressure in key moments
4) Stay humble, you can be confident in your abilities whilst still recognising there is work to do
5) Get a great team to support you on your journey
6) Have fun, otherwise what's the point of it all?
