A drone weighing as much as a Big Mac & fries can disrupt a battlefield. Ukraine can soon produce 1 million drones a year — of all types. Exponential asymmetry in action.
💯 We should also try to see the “unmanned” sector in full MECE terms - we need “drones” that are - small AND big, fast AND slow, tactical AND strategic, attack AND recon. Has to be multidomain - air, land, maritime, space. All of this enveloped in resilient software, AI and cyber tools with counter-EW capabilities. Its an exciting field and, while not a decisive game changer on the battlefield, it has become an essential capability that helps enhance our defense and deterrence. And of course, it helps Ukraine fight and win 💪🇺🇦
Weighing as much as a Big Mac and fries (390 gms)is a new standard that I was not familiar with. Other things that weigh around the same include - a can of Coca Cola - a regulation American Football according to NFL - a large banana (Reddit users)
True disruption will come from reconsidering what war is and what winning it really means and entails... So far, it still looks like a medieval battle - until the last soldier...
Russia uses drones too... That's the problem with the Western help - expensive anti-aircraft missiles are being wasted on cheap drones...
Azeem Azhar The power of technology to disrupt traditional battlefield dynamics is astonishing.

2wDrones will only continue to expand and threaten traditional battlefield environments - just as Tanks disrupted trench warfare and air power changed the idea of safe places - drones will require investment in more electronic warfare systems / which will have their countermeasures and so on. But like most advances in the last 200 years it is these military technologies that then lead to greater progress in peaceful applications
