Ayana Parsons’ Post

🎓 Message of the Day Last Monday, Ebbie Parsons, III delivered the commencement address at Detroit Country Day School and yesterday, Melinda Gates delivered the commencement address at Stanford University. These are two very different leaders but both of their profound words stuck with me. I’m sharing in case their words inspire you as much as they did me. Ebbie Parsons on the “Secret to Success”: “The one thing that sets apart the most successful from everybody else is grit. The formal definition of grit is ‘courageously persistent’ but what grit really means is the ability to get knocked down time and time again and keep getting back up. This isn’t just for a simple task but it is for a sustained period of time — for years, in fact. It’s the refusal to fail because you believe the only time you fail is when you refuse to get back up again.” — Dr. Ebbie Parsons Melinda Gates on “Freedom”: “Resist the idea that anything you’ve done has already locked you into one path or any one kind of life or career. Remember that once the wave learns to call itself by a different name – once it realizes it is not just a wave, but it is water – it becomes free to take on new forms. The same is true for you.” - Melinda Gates #MotivationMonday #HumanPotential #Leadership #Freedom #Success #Grit
