Dispelling the Myths about Hospice Once You Decide on Hospice, the Decision Cannot Be Reversed. Patients remain in control over their care and can leave hospice whenever they want. For example, if a new drug trial becomes available after a patient is on hospice, the family and patient can decide to leave hospice and enroll into the trial. And if they change their mind again and want to go back into hospice, patients can always reapply. The final rule codified data completeness thresholds for the #hospice quality reporting program; to avoid a 4 percent payment reduction, hospices must meet or exceed a data submission threshold set at 90 percent of all required Hospice Item Set records within 30 days of the beneficiary’s admission or discharge and submitted through the #CMS designated data submission systems. #Medicare
