Our dreams and abilities are heavily influenced by the experiences and exposures we've had. 🏌️ Here's a question: How many of your friends are good at playing golf? If you asked me, my answer would be zero. Why? Because there isn't a single golf course in my district, not even in the entire province. Let's leave golf aside and talk about business and innovation. 🌟 Our dreams are proportionate to the experiences and exposures we've had. This 50-second video by Alex Ntale speaks volumes to me. 🏡 I was born and raised in a district next to Nyagatare. 🕒 If you add up all the time I've spent in Nyagatare, it’s roughly 8 years. I spent half of my high school and college years there and worked in the district for almost a year. 📚 So, I know a thing or two about this largest district in Rwanda. 🤝 While I was there, I often interacted with ambitious talents and innovative individuals. Of course, in my spare time, I would simply sit and chug real milk 🥛 💬 From my experience, I can definitely support the saying Ntale mentioned in the video: "𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁." 🚀 If we want to embrace innovation, creativity, diversity, and other vital elements to stimulate growth, then we must decentralize opportunities, especially for young people. I am truly moved by the #Hanga initiative that enables young people to build innovative solutions. 💡 Let's keep supporting talent by providing access to enabling infrastructures and exposing them to learning and acceleration programs. Can't wait to see more innovative entrepreneurs emerging from my home province. 👏 I proudly appreciate the people behind brilliant youth-focused initiatives like Hanga PitchFest, Ingazi, and #YouthConnekt. 📹 VC: Alex Ntale, CEO of Rwanda ICT Chamber #BusinessInRwanda

AEG’s star portfolio company, Panda Africa, is welcomed by the Deputy National Youth Chairman of Zambia’s current presidential party to Foster Youth Entrepreneurship in #Zambia. In a pivotal meeting between Mr. Stephen Chikota, Deputy National Youth Chairman for Administration, and a delegation from Panda Africa Solutions Investment, the stage has been set for a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at empowering Zambian entrepreneurs, both seasoned and budding. Panda Africa specializes in providing money lending services and is eager to extend its support to Zambian entrepreneurs, particularly focusing on the youth and women. The meeting, held with the purpose of exploring opportunities for partnership, unfolded with the delegation's leader outlining Panda Africa's vision for fostering entrepreneurship in Zambia. Panda Africa stands poised to offer funding ranging from 0 to 100% on a profit-sharing basis, a unique approach that distinguishes it from conventional lending institutions. The delegation leader emphasized that Panda Africa is committed to the success of its partners, opting for a profit-sharing model rather than imposing interest rates. This model is designed to ensure a symbiotic relationship where both parties benefit from the success of the venture. As Panda Africa expands its operations across all districts in Zambia, the collaboration holds the promise of reaching and uplifting a broader spectrum of entrepreneurs. The focus on youth and women entrepreneurs further underscores the commitment to inclusivity and empowerment, addressing societal imbalances and fostering a more dynamic and resilient economic landscape. The meeting between Mr. Stephen Chikota and Panda Africa represents a beacon of hope for Zambian entrepreneurs. The prospect of accessible funding and a unique profit-sharing model opens new doors for those seeking to bring their business ideas to fruition. As this partnership unfolds, it has the potential to not only transform individual lives but also contribute significantly to the economic prosperity of Zambia as a whole. #Africa #africainvestment #africaninvestors #africansmes #africanbusiness

I am passionate about enabling access to capital for African entrepreneurs, and believe in the power of impact investing.
This here is Mellanie. And this photo was taken this afternoon as we capped a year of hard work and achievement in celebration with our entrepreneurs in Nairobi. At the office, we fondly address her as Mama AFAWA. And there is a big-little story to it. The African continent has the highest percentage of women entrepreneurs in the world. Through its flagship program, AFAWA (Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa), The African Development Bank retained Transformational Business Network Africa to support (by way of training, mentoring and access to capital) 100 women-owned businesses. AFAWA is a pan-African initiative to bridge the $42 billion financing gap facing women entrepreneurs in Africa. Once I signed the dotted line, I effectively handed “the project” to Mellanie, and walked away - amidst obvious protest. But my oh my, has Mellanie outdone herself! To date, we have more than doubled the number of women entrepreneurs we support. In fact, the ratio of male to women entrepreneurs in our fold is now 1:1. It is a documented fact that women in leadership roles increase team productivity by a whooping 20 percent. And that women reinvest up to 90 percent of their income in the education, health and nutrition of their families, and wider community. (Men only re-invest 40 percent). Helping these women-led businesses to grow and scale by way of training, mentoring and providing access to capital is therefore not just the right thing to do. It is, in fact, the profitable thing to do. And thanks to the leadership of Mellanie, this is a growing reality for us. #impactinvesting #entrepreneurship #africa
