Inspiring generations of space explorers, Founder @ Louno Space | Systems Engineer @ MDA | STEM Ambassador | Payload 30 Under 30
🇬🇧👨🚀 I went to see British astronaut Tim Peake last night for the presentation of his new book "SPACE: THE HUMAN STORY" and here are a few takeaways. 1. APPLY APPLY APPLY! If your goal is to become an astronaut, go and apply! Don't be scared to be rejected, it is part of the process. He told the story of some of the Mercury and Apollo astronauts who were rejected on their first application and then became the men who shaped the history of space. 2. The biggest fear for an astronaut is to become an unflown astronaut: those who don't pass the astronaut training, develop health conditions, etc. and the main drive are the big questions: why are we here? is there life in the universe? where are we going? 3. You are allowed to forget stuff. The astronaut training is incredibly intense and forgetting things is fine as long as you keep your survival training fresh and are good at following procedures (he said if you can build an IKEA drawer by looking at the instructions, you're good to go). 4. For each seat we get from the US to launch astronauts into space, we give hardware. A great example is the Gateway ESA modules we're building in France, Italy and Germany. Also, we expect a big return on investment, and for each astronaut or rocket launched into space, we expect a 90% return. 5. Finally, we mentioned the recent partnership between the UK Space Agency and Axiom Space to launch an all-British astronaut mission to the ISS. The mission dates and the crew have not been announced yet. One interesting question arises, if this mission is successful, will UKSA invest more in hiring more British astronauts? #BecomeAnAstronaut #UKSA #ESA #NASA #SpaceIndustry #SpaceExploration

Proud to contribute to the European Space Agency - ESA #ExoMars2028 mission! The rover will count on a drill developed by #Leonardo to collect soil samples by drilling into the #Martian soil up to 2 meters deep. The collection and analysis of soil samples will also take place thanks to a miniaturized infrared spectrometer (Ma_MISS) inserted inside the drill and developed by #Leonardo with Agenzia Spaziale Italiana and INAF - Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica - IAPS. One of the mission objectives is to search for subsurface bacteria, living or fossilized, which would be evidence of extant or previous life on the #RedPlanet. #Spaceforlife

Image Source: AP America’s Boeing Space Mission. Canaveral (Florida): AAmerica’s space mission has once again been postponed due to a malfunction in its Boeing aircraft. According to the information, due to a valve related fault in one of Boeing’s rocket, its first astronaut flight has been postponed till the end of next week. This has dealt a major blow to the American mission. An oxygen pressure-relief valve on the upper stage of United Launch Alliance’s Atlas-5 rocket opened and closed several times, creating a loud noise and halting the countdown to the spacecraft’s launch on Monday night. This has created disappointment among scientists. <!-- /8323530/Khabar_Desktop_VDO_1X1 --> Even before this, Boeing’s space mission has failed many times. Many times Boeing flights have had to be stopped due to some technical fault. It is being told that the company’s engineers discovered on Tuesday that the valve has gone out of its prescribed operating limit and now it will have to be removed. Only after this a plan will be prepared to re-release the mission. After this problem was detected, it was decided that the launch would not be done before May 17. Looking for sophisticated SW engineering projects: Embedded | IIoT Connectivity | Digital service development | BI & Advanced Analytics (Machine Vision & Time-series) |
Reflecting back to the #space post 4 days ago: turns out we have some great news to share! Our THOR solution (Automatic solar roof ROI tool) based on sattelite image recognition was among the top 8 projects the European Space Agency - ESA picked out of 306 #energy initiatives. Maybe its not too out of this world after all :) #solarenergy #proekspert #sustainability https://lnkd.in/d6Czd3uP

So, we’ve been doing a number of space-related projects during past years, which got me thinking: should we have a separate landing page called “Rocket Science”? Or is it too out of this world? 🚀 ;) Image credit to Proekspert AS blogpost from 2021 and #iOS Keynote - the most convenient photo editing software at hands, literally. #space #rocketscience #softwareengineering #innovation #technology #proekspert #datascience SpaceX,NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration,BLUE ORIGIN, Virgin Galactic, European Space Agency - ESA

On June 17, the U.S. and India announced cooperation on human spaceflight, including flying an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station National Laboratory (ISS): 1️⃣ A fact sheet released by the #WhiteHouse highlighted progress in various technology sectors during the U.S.-India iCET meeting in New Delhi, chaired by the national security advisers of both countries. 2️⃣ The fact sheet noted "securing a carrier for the first-ever joint effort between NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and ISRO astronauts at the ISS," referencing a previous announcement about training Indian astronauts for a joint mission to the #ISS in 2024. 3️⃣ Details on the mission's carrier and schedule remain undisclosed. Eric Garcetti, U.S. ambassador to India, indicated the mission would occur this year, but a #NASA spokesperson said details are still being finalized. 4️⃣ The likely scenario for the mission is a private astronaut mission, such as Axiom Space's Ax-4, scheduled for late this year, though crew and training plans are not yet revealed. 5️⃣ The fact sheet mentioned a completed “Strategic Framework for Human Spaceflight Cooperation” without details. The framework was expected to be finished by the end of 2023, and advanced training for #ISRO astronauts at NASA Johnson Space Center is planned. 6️⃣ The U.S. and India are also exploring India's participation in the Lunar Gateway Program and collaboration in other space technologies. 7️⃣ Indian startups 114 AI, Inc and 3rdiTech Inc. are partnering with the U.S. Space Force on space situational awareness technologies. 8️⃣ NASA and ISRO have collaborated on the NISAR Earth science mission. NISAR’s launch was postponed to modify its antenna, with no new date disclosed. #EntrepreneurshipStudio #SpaceTech

Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore continuing from Space.com Just because Boeing does not have Atlas rockets or because NASA can not pay for cargo flights are no excuses to put human astronauts at more than acceptable risk due to unproven (yet not operational) space mission. Combination of mission hardware and systems includes LV + Capsule. These could have been tested separately. Are we seeing a Logical mistake and hope it is not as serious cover up as was Columbia by suppressing information that we proved could have saved most astronauts. Here the story is slightly different as these are ace test pilot astronauts, but we should exhaust most robotic testing before we put astronauts in missions. Let us now compare with Artemis! The situation is also not rosy as they are trying to patch together Shuttle engines and have enough only for a few missions and depend upon new engines at least for future missions. Thus ULA is also a slightly risky path. Perhaps we should give Starship a chance to succeed and use Falcon and Starship combinations in clever ways than to keep reusing some mothballed hardware which has at best sub-optimal provenance! India and the US are collaborating to train an ISRO astronaut for the International Space Station (ISS), marking a significant step in boosting critical technology initiatives. https://lnkd.in/dDcDq9zB This collaboration is akin to the Big Room Trainings in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), where different teams come together to align, plan, and execute strategies effectively. Just as NASA and ISRO works as enabling and stream-Aligned team to achieve a common goal, in SAFe, we have Enabling Teams and Stream-Aligned Teams to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of value. The power of collaboration and structured training cannot be overstated! #ISRO #NASA #SAFe #BigRoomTraining #Agile #ScaledAgileFramework #EnablingTeam #StreamAlignedTeam #Technology #Collaboration #Innovation #SpaceExploration #AgileTransformation

MOON PIONEERS MISSION -- AND THE CRITICAL NEED FOR DEPENDABLE FOOD PRODUCTION IN SPACE Congratulations to my industry colleague and collaborator Mackenze McAleer who -- after successfully completing his 3-day on-site #simulated #spacemission this past weekend – is now officially trained to be an #AnalogAstronaut. The simulated Moon Pioneers Mission was held at Midland International Air & Space Port in #Midland, #Texas – right at the heart of the global human #spaceflight ecosystem. Organized by Space Nation, the simulated mission and its participating cohort of analog astronaut trainees were advised by former NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut Michael 'Bueno' Good, a veteran of two #SpaceShuttle Missions and four #spacewalks. The mission involved, among others, mission-specific training and subsequent mission simulation runs with crews divided into Mission Control and the Moon Base. Asked what important insights he gained from the experience, Mackenze offered – given the 24/7 hostile environment of #space and the constant challenges one faces in living and working in space – that having a #bioregenerative space #food #productionsystem that is high-yielding as it is #dependable, #automated, #resilient and #sustainable – as empowered by #robotics, #sensors, #dataanalytics, #computervision and #AI -- would be vitally important. He added that not having to worry about #food would free up the crew’s time and energy to attend to the myriad other urgent #challenges that need addressing in the #extraterrestrial environment. Mackenze and I, together with our industry colleague Matteo Jean P., co-designed the #subterranean #BORING (BurrOwing & Regenerative IN Ground) #VerticalFarm for the #Moon, #Mars and beyond. The best is yet to come. Lori Magruder, Luis Sentis NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration

We are well aware that humans can create space stations for astronauts to live there for extended periods of time, sometimes spanning more than one year. But in space, astronauts do not experience gravity the way humans feel it here on Earth, which leads to a number of serious problems. But is there any way to create an artificial gravity using currently available technology? -- https://lnkd.in/dEXYydyy
