Director Public Affairs EU at Axel Springer SE | Head of Brussels Office | Vice President of BVDW | Marshall Memorial Fellow
Goodbye 2023 – goodbye Axel Springer! On my own behalf. 😊 After more than ten years at Axel Springer, I have decided to open a new chapter. My two-year secondment as Head of Office in Brussels ends at the end of the year – a good opportunity to set off for new shores. Since 2010, I have been part of the digital transformation in Germany and abroad, from BILD & Welt to "Electronic Media" and most recently Public Affairs. The company has developed rapidly since then, so it never got boring. And I am very grateful for the numerous experiences and, in particular, the trust placed in me! To pick out just five examples: 🌟 Project Premium Content: My debut at Axel Springer in 2010. A Group-wide strategy project that is still a perennial issue today: How can you convince users to pay for something that was previously free? There was probably no better way to get to know the Group in a very short time. Andreas Wiele, Florian Klages, Christian Fuhrhop... #PremiumContent 🌟CDP: The commitment to an efficient #platformeconomy and improved data sharing within and outside the Group. Rarely have I learned so much about Germany and Europe as a digital location as I did during this time, both for the good and for what could be improved. Michael Wolter, Tom Halank, Michael Reiner, Carlos Bracho, Regina Hüf and many more. 🌟"BILD for all": The only "real analog" project I took part in as support and which I can still remember well. Every German household was supposed to receive a newspaper. It worked despite all the adversities – and most recipients (who hadn't objected) were happy too 😉 Ralf Hermanns 🌟 The acquisition of (then still) N24, now Welt TV: countless night shifts and at least as many pizzas with Christoph Falke in a dark office wing analyzing broadcasting schedules, reach and commercials. #mergersacquisitions 🌟 Last but not least: the joint fight for a fair #digitaleconomy, which has been with me for many years now and I am deeply convinced of its importance for society as a whole. From the DSA and DMA to the GWB, ePrivacy, the AI Act, the MedienStV and EMFA. Dr. Dietrich von Klaeden, Florian Nehm, Karolina Sznajder, Benedicta von Rauch, Franziska Fislage, Fabian Griewel, Damian Flisak, Daniela Rau-Kahnt and Angie Scheunemann and all other supporters, whether inside Axel Springer – such as Robert Blanck, Ansgar Schoenborn, Dr. Susanne Stollhoff, Albrecht von Sonntag, Christopher Reher, Julia Kühne, Sabine Schmidt… – or outside (way too many to list here). After such a long time in the Group, I have certainly forgotten many people who are important to me. I would therefore also like to thank my other colleagues and contacts for the great cooperation! It was always a lot of fun - let's stay in touch! Before I continue, I would like to dedicate some time to my family, which has been a bit neglected recently. And now enjoy the end of the year. With this in mind: „Einen guten Rutsch“ to everyone and to a happy 2024! 🚀🎈💫

"We firmly believe that Axel Springer is more than the sum of the individual cultures of its companies. We have a decisive element that holds everything together at its core. And that is freedom", Niddal Salah-Eldin, member of our Executive Board and responsible for global talent and culture topics, remarked in an interview in the trade medium journalist. Elaborating on our cultural philosophy and the power of our group, Niddal shared the following insights: 💡 Our global ecosystem is designed to become a permeable environment, one that not only attracts but also retains exceptional talent and fosters a dynamic and innovative workplace. 💡 Culture and business are inextricably linked and equally critical to our success. To this end, we have refined our "cultural operating system", and updated our standards and processes as a foundation for the entire group. 💡 In order to future proof our company, people from business, journalism, and technology do not only coexist but engage in close collaboration. This spirit is showcased through various initiatives, whether at the Axel Springer Academy of Journalism and Technology or our Global Generative AI team, where interdisciplinary cooperation is standard practice. At significant events such as the very first women_con or the Media & Tech Con, Niddal highlighted the importance of creating magic moments that address cultural topics pertinent to the entire group, encouraging exchange and reinforcing our culture of cultures. We're excited for many more such magic moments in 2024! ___ #axelspringer #asallstars #peopleofaxelspringer

Yesterday, I had the privilege of being part of the Award for Change 2023, celebrating diversity, inclusion, and climate action within the Axel Springer group. It was inspiring to witness colleagues globally passionately engaged in these vital topics. What a great opportunity to shed light on the very important and urgent topic of #digitalaccessibility. In a conversation with Birgit Raab and Babette Cyrek from the Axel Springer Konzernschwerbehindertenvertretung we talked about opportunities and challenges. Both emphasized the urgency of the topic, as the #EuropeanAccessibilityAct and the German #Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz mandate accessibility for all digital products and services by June 2025. While progress is evident, time is ticking. To address this also on a global level, we've formed an international working group, uniting colleagues across Axel Springer to tackle the topic together. Our commitment stems not only from legal obligations but a shared belief that we have the responsibility to secure that our digital spaces are inclusive and respectful of diverse needs! Gratitude to Ronak Ahmadloo, Michael Hermet from the AVIV Group, and Mimouna Mahdaoui from The Stepstone Group for urgently bringing the need for this working group to us at the Axel Springer Knowledge Network. I eagerly anticipate our upcoming meetings. Cherry on the top: Kudos to Lars Quetting, for winning the Award for Change in the category D&I Leader 2023, notably for championing real-time AI-generated TV subtitles for Bild and Welt, enhancing accessibility for all!

The fall of the Berlin Wall over thirty years ago was a historic event, but traces of communism still linger in the corporate world today. In several organizations, their structure and culture stifle individuality and innovation, reminiscent of the rigid systems of the past. How can we promote environments that embrace diversity of thought and drive innovation? Let's explore ways to create #CorporateCulture that fosters #Innovation and celebrates #DiversityOfThought. Any thoughts?

Three years of Themis Foresight - what a ride, Carina Stöttner! What has happened since and why the last point is very important for me personally when it comes to the success of our work: 🤝 Client realtions became #relationships: With more than half of our now 30 clients, we have implemented more than just one project. Many of them have developed into long-term partnerships. Thank you for this trust! 🌎 Our #stages: Carina Stöttner and I held over 150 #keynotes in cities like Athens, Dubai, Munich, Paris, Reykjavik, or Zurich sharing #insights into our research. 🧠 #Futures are developed together: In regular exchanges with other foresight practitioners from all over the world, be they in Florence, Bucharest, Warsaw, Turin, Trento, Rabat, Singapore, Amsterdam, Reykjavik, Washington, DC, or al-Khobar, we experienced wonderful #collaboration, new #methodological insights, and an array of perspectives - many more thanks to the World Futures Studies Federation! 💡 Continuous expansion: Over the last three years we have developed and refined our #foresight portfolio. We have developed numerous "pictures of the future", #scenarios, white papers and industry #studies on future topics for a variety of industrial corporations and learned a lot about market dynamics in the process. 📚 Insights shared: We have shared our cumulative knowledge in a total of 9 published studies and analyses. Over the last few years we have also published two books! In numerous #interviews, #articles, #podcasts, and #panels we talked about the findings of our work, including at Handelsblatt Live, with Frank Thelen or at Stepstone Deutschland. 🚀 Shaping the future: Under the leadership of Jan David Ott, we have held seven successful #futurelabs in Berlin and Frankfurt, where we brought together the brightest minds from various industries. I'm looking forward to the eighth meeting in June in Stuttgart on the future of the #industry and #industrial #labor. 🤲 Strong #networks: Last year we joined berlin advisors group and have since expanded our reach and network as well as found wonderful colleagues in our new partners. 👥 Beautiful minds: Our team has achieved great things over the last few years. A big thanks to all of our team members past and present! This fine collection of people is complemented by our #advisory #board consisting of 17 members, which includes a wide range of expertise, from China analysts to board members - a phone call away there is someone ready for idea sparring on every subject matter. The board proved essential for our work as an independent #thinktank, not only to gain different perspectives, but also to receive honest criticism. Thanks to you,

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the LinkedIn Talent Connect DACH conference in Munich together with my fantastic colleagues, Liane Keil and Cornelius Höller. It was also a great opportunity to finally meet Dominik Seeber face to face - thank you for a quality time! The insights gained during the conference were invaluable, and I'd like to share a few key takeaways: 🔺 Artificial Intelligence, while a powerful tool for progress and job enhancement, isn't a one-size-fits-all solution to labor shortages. Many still view AI through a lens of science fiction, underscoring the need for organizations to demonstrate its practical applications at the operational level. 🔺 As technology advances and robots become more efficient, it's neccessary for us as humans to lean into our unique qualities - empathy and creativity. 🔺 In today's dynamic work landscape, the emphasis has shifted towards skill-based recruiting. Traditional qualifications are giving way to diverse skill sets as the key to unlocking potential. 🔺 Lastly, fostering internal mobility is a strategic move for talent retention. By promoting movement within the organization, we not only retain our valued team members but also nurture growth and development from within. Looking forward to implementing these insights and driving positive change! #AI #LinkedInTalentConnectDach #FutureOfWork #SkillBasedRecruiting #InternalMobility #TalentAcquisition #LinkedIn

Very happy with this years #TrendstoWatch! I think "Social Growing Pain" captures that odd in-between feeling of this time so well. Also curious to see which of our 5 Trends will be validated most by the coming months. Always enjoying the process of shaping those themes in super interesting sessions together with Ulrich Köhler, Tea Thaning, Kim Karina Haußer and Fiorella Frank ❤️ Download the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eT3yTWX5
💡 Here's a new term for you: "Social Growing Pain". Or another one: "Fakeification". These and a lot more can be found in Trendbüro's brand new #TrendstoWatch report, which we released today with an exclusive event. 🚀 Thanks to an incredible team around Sabine Rogg, Kim Karina Haußer, Tea Thaning and Fiorella Frank we came up with a list of next year's #consumertrends that will empower companies to navigate change with confidence. 🛤️ AVANTGARDE Group's CEO Dr. Marc Schumacher hosted the launch event, which also saw a cameo appearance by one of Germany's leaders in cultural marketing (and LinkedIn agnostic) Josip Radović. Together with Sabine Rogg, we tried to make sense of the future in an inspiring panel talk! 💼 Let us know if you are interested in the report. #Teamwork #FutureReady #ChangeMakers
