In July 2021, I started to think more deeply about how I might be able to support young people as we emerged from the pandemic. This led to the co-founding of ReconnectEd with my two wonderful co-founders, Belinda Logan and Georgia Coppin-Score. ReconnectEd is a social enterprise set up to help young people facing extreme adversity to flourish in mainstream school. We provide an intensive trauma-informed emotion coaching programme so that we can strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of young people at risk of exclusion, address its root causes, support their families and schools to ensure a joined-up approach, and, ultimately, facilitate change within the education system. Having started our first pilot programme with Brigantia Learning Trust at the beginning of this year, I’m delighted to share our first ever Impact Report today. In just six months and with only two ReconnectEd coaches, we have some really encouraging evidence of impact of the model we’ve introduced: - 100% of our priority pupils, according to STEER data, have improved their self-regulation, which helps them to manage better their emotions and behaviour. - Brigantia Learning Trust has reported that suspensions have decreased by nearly 25% and internal exclusions have decreased by over 50%. - There have been no permanent exclusions in our cohort. - There has been 100% pupil retention. We have big ambitions to help many more young people who need it, so if you’re interested in hearing more or supporting us, please do reach out. You can find our Impact Report below. http://bit.ly/3PlcUHK #mentalwellbeing #youngpeople #impact
Today, we’re launching our first ever Impact Report from the first 6 months of our 3.5 year pilot with Brigantia Learning Trust. Working in the second most deprived ward in Sheffield, 100% of the young people in our cohort are eligible for Free School Meals and experiencing extreme adversity. We’re immensely proud to announce that in the first six months of our pilot: 🔵 We recruited and trained two coaches who have intensively supported 9 young people and their families, and a further 20 young people have benefitted through medium-level or light-touch support. 🔵 100% of our priority pupils have improved their self-regulation, according to STEER. 🔵 Suspensions have decreased by nearly 25% and internal exclusions have decreased by over 50% 🔵 There have been no permanent exclusions in our cohort since our programme began and we’ve had 100% retention. This is the first step on our journey and our ambition for this pilot is to recruit and upskill 10 Coaches to support 100 young people and their families, and benefit a further 1,000 through the positive ripple effect of our programme. As we continue to grow and support young people, we want to hear from you. What difference do you think it would make if all young people facing adversity were able to improve their self-regulation?
