It's interesting that customers don't complain when they get a discount on a car, or when the OEM raises the price of the MSRP. But when dealers sell cars at market price, it's bad business practice. Pricing is subject to supply and demand, even Tesla plays this game. #automotive #autodealers #electriccars #evcharging #autoindustry

Report: Ford Vows Better Dealer Engagement, NADA Attendees Vexed: Last week, Ford CEO Jim Farley asked a group of dealers for some open and honest feedback while promising to spend the next few weeks visiting showrooms. The point was to create a conversation between the automaker and dealerships that have grown annoyed with some of the changes Ford has been asking them to make. However, the latest from the North American Dealers Association (NADA) meeting makes it sound like the relationship may still be dicey. #car #cars #awesome

The New York Automotive Forum (AFNY) last week reiterated the importance of dealer networks to OEM’s and the integral role they play in providing a best in class customer experience. This article mentions Toyota Motor's NA EVP Jack Hollis comments on Hyundai’s online Amazon model and why Toyota will not be following suit. He discusses Toyota's vital collaboration with dealers to create a seamless retail experience to combat the evolving consumer market, rough EV terrain and 'one more year' of historically tight inventories. #AFNY #DMS #Automotive #aftermarket #electrification

Summary: Ford is facing resistance from about half of its dealers in the US who are reluctant to invest in selling electric vehicles, citing expensive certification programs, training costs, and a cooling market for electric cars. This has led to a strained relationship between the automaker and its dealers, which also affected the company's trust rating among its dealerships. Takeaway: Despite Ford's efforts to promote electric vehicle adoption, challenges with dealer buy-in and the cooling demand for electric cars are impacting the company's electric vehicle initiatives. Ford Motor Company incentivizing Dealers to sell certain vehicles is fine. But the consumer trust problems start when the irrational and erratic pricing of the same exact vehicle right down the street becomes the reality. One Dealer swears they are selling the truck below what it costs them. The next dealer is at a different incentive level and offers the same truck for less, swearing THEY are selling the truck below what it costs them. The end result in the consumers mind: Dealers are liars. How do we allow for incentives without causing such market pricing confusion?? 👇🏻 We don't have the best track record as an industry. Ford Motor Company has updated its Model e EV program to make it less costly for dealers to become certified to sell Ford EVs, the company confirmed in an email. The revised program goes live Jan. 1. Changes to the program include requiring fewer #EV chargers and reducing dealer training requirements to prepare them to sell EVs, which the company said would drop investment costs by about 50%. Over the last year, some dealers and dealer associations filed legal challenges in at least six states, saying Ford’s EV program violated dealer franchise laws, while others were dissatisfied with the financial commitment required to sell its EVs. h/t Eric Walz #automotive #automotiveindustry #automotivenews #businessnews #electricvehicles #news #retail #sales #technews #technology #tesla
