Besides being exceptional and charismatic human beings, they're all inspiring role models for Brazilian women, according to our 'Women in Tech' research. Check it out on our website: https://bit.ly/3UJxSCP Recently, we asked young girls about their role models, with many mentioning their mothers😍. Many Brazilian women also look up to their mothers or other close figures. On top of that, 4% of non-STEM workers admire their fellow countrywoman, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, even though she’s not in tech at all 😅🙈. Why is knowing the role models important anyway? Us, too, we absolutely love Gisele who found success in her field. But it would be even better if, being asked about role models of women in tech, Brazilians would call someone like Daniella Castro, PhD from San Paolo, who created Huna that helps detect chronic diseases at early stages. Because role models enable people to decide their future, to gain perspective, and to place their hopes and beliefs correctly. They also help them see that choosing this career path is something to be proud of. Conversely, if there are not enough examples of women in tech, especially in leadership positions, there are fewer chances for little girls to consider this profession. When it comes to male role models, the picture is quite typical. Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Steve Jobs are absolute favorites among both STEM and non-STEM respondents. In terms of female role models, first coder Ada Lovelace is admired by 11% of STEM-working women and 5% of non-STEM-working women. Grace Hopper, the first compiler developer, is appreciated by 7% of STEM workers, while game designer Carol Shaw is admired by 6% of both STEM and non-STEM workers. YouTube former CEO Susan Wojcicki is recognized by 5% of STEM women exclusively, and Wi-Fi conception inventor Hedy Lamarr by 4% of STEM workers. Moreover, there's a noticeable gap in the recognition of male and female role models. While 82% of Brazilian women can name male role models, only 64% can name female role models. This, again, highlights the need for more well-known female figures, huh! Are you from Brazil? Who is your female role model? Simplifying Complex Messaging with the crybaby Proven Process Storyteller | Content Creator | Female Founder | #womenintech
crybaby has been creating content with tech companies for 8 inspirational years now, and the growth we’ve witnessed in female talent in the space has been phenomenal. Despite the visible increase though, it's still nowhere near where we'd like it to be. According to the Australian Government’s 2022 stats, women still only represent 27% of our STEM workforce. Don't underestimate the part content can play in driving a change for the better. Representation matters. Remember the effect the Matilda's world cup journey had on young Aussie girls across the country? The ABC shared there was a huge 67% increase in female soccer registrations during the tournament. If you see yourself on the stage, you become inspired to earn your place on it too. We want to empower the new and upcoming female voices in the tech industry. We want to celebrate the incredible women already working in this space, and open the doors to let more talented women in to make their own impact. We want to allow female mentors the opportunity to share their wisdom, and use female-led content to make a lasting impression on the bright and inquisitive girls considering if there's room for them too. There is an opportunity before us to address the gender gap in the industry, and prove that a career in STEM is a viable pathway, accessible to all. Today is International Women's Day 2024, the United Nations theme 'Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate progress' has never felt more apt. All tech companies should be using more female voices in their content; it's the most simple and effective way to reach half of the community. Show them that they matter. Let them see themselves. #womeninSTEM #womenintech #IWD #Investinwomen

When talking about the insufficient representation of women in tech, the course of the discussion usually leads to the lack of women in the industry and how young women should be encouraged to pursue STEM studies and careers. And I agree with that. But there’s another side of the equation that often goes by unaddressed; the experiences of women who initiate their careers in STEM but eventually exit due to disparities, as well as those currently active in the field but don't feel fully engaged because of the nature of their assigned responsibilities. Addressing the underlying factors or issues that may hinder women's involvement is as important as encouraging the new generation of young women. Otherwise, we may not be as progressive as we think we are.

Happy National #STEM Day, let's celebrate the incredible contributions of women in STEM fields. According to research, women currently make up only 34% of the STEM workforce, highlighting the need for increased gender diversity in these sectors. Kelley Steven-Waiss, Chief Transformation Officer at ServiceNow, exemplifies the impact women can have in STEM. She has not only succeeded in the tech industry but also dedicated herself to making it more inclusive for future generations of women. Kelley's message is clear: "You can have it all, you just can't have it all at once." She emphasizes the importance of helping other women climb the career ladder, highlighting the significance of mentorship, encouragement, and support. Kelley's journey reminds us that every small step towards gender diversity makes a difference. Businesses and leaders must invest in creating opportunities for women to build relevant skills and mentorship without singling them out based on gender. Inclusivity in STEM should focus on recognizing the richness and diversity of individuals' experiences and skills, going beyond culture, background, and gender. On National STEM Day, let's commit to fostering an environment that empowers and supports women in STEM, ensuring that everyone can reach their full potential. #NationalSTEMDay #WomenInSTEM #DiversityInTech
