Besides being exceptional and charismatic human beings, they're all inspiring role models for Brazilian women, according to our 'Women in Tech' research. Check it out on our website: https://bit.ly/3UJxSCP Recently, we asked young girls about their role models, with many mentioning their mothers😍. Many Brazilian women also look up to their mothers or other close figures. On top of that, 4% of non-STEM workers admire their fellow countrywoman, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, even though she’s not in tech at all 😅🙈. Why is knowing the role models important anyway? Us, too, we absolutely love Gisele who found success in her field. But it would be even better if, being asked about role models of women in tech, Brazilians would call someone like Daniella Castro, PhD from San Paolo, who created Huna that helps detect chronic diseases at early stages. Because role models enable people to decide their future, to gain perspective, and to place their hopes and beliefs correctly. They also help them see that choosing this career path is something to be proud of. Conversely, if there are not enough examples of women in tech, especially in leadership positions, there are fewer chances for little girls to consider this profession. When it comes to male role models, the picture is quite typical. Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Steve Jobs are absolute favorites among both STEM and non-STEM respondents. In terms of female role models, first coder Ada Lovelace is admired by 11% of STEM-working women and 5% of non-STEM-working women. Grace Hopper, the first compiler developer, is appreciated by 7% of STEM workers, while game designer Carol Shaw is admired by 6% of both STEM and non-STEM workers. YouTube former CEO Susan Wojcicki is recognized by 5% of STEM women exclusively, and Wi-Fi conception inventor Hedy Lamarr by 4% of STEM workers. Moreover, there's a noticeable gap in the recognition of male and female role models. While 82% of Brazilian women can name male role models, only 64% can name female role models. This, again, highlights the need for more well-known female figures, huh! Are you from Brazil? Who is your female role model?
