We believe our work has an impact on our community. This is something we take very seriously. At D.M. Wills our definition of community is vast yet specific: Community is the place, the Towns and Cities, where our team member live and work; Community is the people that we impact daily through our teams’ work both inside and outside the office. Community is a commitment to our team members to foster an work environment where they can be their best and have maximum impact. Building communities goes beyond physical structures to involve the sense of belonging a community holds. Not just buildings, but places where people feel safe, comfortable, and at home. People’s “third spaces” — another place outside of home and work where they belong. At Wills, we understand the importance of maintaining a positive and harmonious relationship with our community and we do our best day in and out to making a lasting positive impact on each community.

What an invigorating morning it was at the #Edcon conference! Our team had the honor of joining forces with the insightful Brett Waller and the dedicated members of the Seattle Police Department for a panel discussion on a cause dear to us all: Community Safety. In our conversation, we delved into ways to enhance the safety of our residential communities. We discussed a range of strategies, brought our collective knowledge to the table, and concentrated on the newest methods, technologies, and resources. Our aim was to bolster neighborhood safety, working hand in hand with community partners and leveraging available resources. However, this is merely the beginning of a much larger conversation. We believe in the power of community and collective wisdom. So, we're curious: What are your best tips for fostering safety in multifamily communities? Share your strategies and experiences below. Let’s continue the dialogue and together, create safer, more secure neighborhoods. #CommunitySafety #SafetyFirst #multifamily Washington Multi-Family Housing Association

ECAS Enforcement Teams, out spreading the messages against FOG; looking more like a Parking Enforcement or FOG SWAT Team!! Water Companies outsourcing their Regulatory obligations to private FOG SWAT Teams needs industry debate! Do you really need hi vis, body cams, radios and all that PPE to take a look at a kitchen's grease management?
We’re not the only ones engaging local community members! One of our team, out and about on behalf of Severn Trent, got talking to the Central BID team in Birmingham about the valuable work we do. #communityengagement #birmingham #environmentalprotection

I am not an expert in this. I’m going to share our Safety Policy for two reasons– 1️⃣ Safety feels like the most important aspect of living with others and I don’t see much shared about how to handle it 2️⃣ Poke holes in it - TEAR IT UP! Share what's worked or not worked. We can all learn from your wisdom. OUR POLICY: https://lnkd.in/g4FWBp7c Most of the Harassment and Assault Policy was a gift from a longstanding co-op in Austin so that we could have procedures that are tried and true. Some of it was co-created with the community after a house crisis, like Community Agreements. Some of this, like Tension and Conflict is from my experience coliving and men’s work and passion. 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 Hi, I'm Kyle Gaarder. I believe community living can transform ourselves and our culture. I dream of a future where community balanced with individualism is common sense and accessible. I share what I'm thinking about to give possible value and find my place within the movement. #coliving #colivingspace #futureofliving #communitysafety Mayank Pokharna

I appreciate Aparna R.'s thoughtful framing of the topic. There are serious underlying questions here. What are the boundaries of "presence" in remote work? New managerial approaches ask does this request make the meetings more impactful or efficient? Alternatively, neoliberal frames ask if it is a public services in terms of citizens’ rights, public welfare and solidarity? Current thought considers are such requests equitable, inclusive and/or are they even relevant? The request and attending questions signal a set of encroachments toward regulating "presence" as a precondition of "participation"- even in remote work. Cameras on or off may be a binary portal to scale larger conversations about the future of work, workers rights and reasonable accommodation in remote work. I see bidding and socializing new capitalist modes of production that wrest labor power and extract emotional labor. Personally, I show up in all work (labor for wages) fully emancipated. I will turn my camera on when it I feel serves the work by creating solidarity for liberated space with other participants also free to choose. I do not presuppose to substitute my judgements nor prescribe them for others. The views expressed here are solely my own.
At this point, I'm considering adding a clause to contracts (at a minimum for virtual speaking engagements) that require the majority of participants to be on-camera. In many spaces, what started as a way to create equity for people working from home, is now a prominent cause for conflict. Far from the facade of embracing flexibility and accessibility - camera-optional cultures have given way to lousy basement behaviors. Staring at empty grey squares does not support building community. And frankly, we know better than to keep advocating for behaviors that further isolate us. What do you think?
