Today we launch ServiceNow's Vancouver release, and I'm thrilled to be part of the fantastic team putting AI to work for all of us. 🤖✨ How on earth did I get so lucky? 🍀🤞 Storytime! It all started years ago with the innovation workshops I facilitated where we dreamt up products like Experian Boost and Experian Health's Patient Financial Advisor. Our Crazy 8 sketches had one common thread: chat interfaces guiding users effortlessly to their goals. Now, I wish I could say I had a crystal ball predicting the AI-powered future, but the truth is, conversational interfaces just made sense. They simplified complexity, making users' lives easier. Plus, they were the perfect canvas for running Wizard of Oz product tests with Lean Startup, Lean UX, and Lean Enterprise principles. 🧙♂️🌟 During my time at USAA, I became a sponge, soaking up every insight on conversation design shared by experts like 🕹 Megan H.. Little did I know, I'd soon find myself on the very pointy tip of the rocket ship, designing AI-powered conversational interfaces at ServiceNow. 🚀 AI is still in its infancy, but its potential is mind-boggling. It can supercharge productivity, enhance experiences, and boost agility. I'm thrilled to be on the cutting edge of this innovation, surrounded by brilliant, emotionally intelligent folks like Rita Crain (Castillo), Tami McBride, and Jessica DeMartini. So, here's my challenge to you: Dive deeper into how AI can transform your customers' experiences, elevate your business, and skyrocket your career. As the year closes out, I just wanted to look back on this past year at Digital Clarity - a whirlwind of late nights, breakthrough "aha" moments, and a deep sense of pride. It's been a year not just of accomplishments, but of personal growth and meaningful connections. Working on a Data Loss Prevention project was a standout experience, turning complex challenges into robust, secure solutions. It was more than coding; it was about making a real impact. Then, diving into an Employee Service Center project brought a blend of creativity and technical skill, with each late-night success sparking a rush of satisfaction. Wow! Waking up this morning I got a reminder that I’ve been with ServiceNow for 5 full years! What a ride this has been, and it even feels like yesterday that I had my first day flying in to the Amsterdam office for my on-site intro (yes that was a thing we used to do back then 😅) It also made me reflect, what makes me stay here at ServiceNow. Coming from HR I’m true to my core and reflect on learnings from science. There’s a lot of literature out there on what keeps employees happy or what pushes them away from a company. But for me there are there main reasons why I wake up in the morning feeling happy about my job: - Great tech! It’s true, our technology is awesome! The flexibility of our low code platform is immense and makes me feel like we can achieve anything. Just look at how far we’ve gotten with our Generative AI Now Assist in such a short time! - Culture and colleagues! What’s been a constant driving force for me at ServiceNow has been how our culture lets us put the customer first and work together as a team to create success! Naturally this is only possible when I get to work with amazing people. This is to all my ServiceNow colleagues who come together to make the world work! - An amazing Manager! I think it’s a well established fact by now that managers are key to growing people in an organisation. it certainly has been for me. Whew! We've hit the homestretch of the ServiceNow NextGen externship, folks! Can you believe it's the last week already? The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of teamwork, brainpower, and lots of coffee. We've been in cahoots, working on those all-important final capstone projects, gearing up for the big reveal! Today, our moment arrived! With all eyes on us, my amazing team and I presented our project to the pod. And guess what? We're finalists! We’re heading to the grand stage, aiming to impress peers and ServiceNow’s top brass. It's like winning hearts instead of numbers, a presentation jackpot. 🤩🎰 Here's a brief project overview: I conceptualized the creation of a mental health app customized for teenagers facing mental health difficulties. The app aims to offer mental health support, enable activity scheduling, and grant access to resources for guiding them through their adolescent journey. In this project, I assumed the responsibility of what I do best: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 ⚙️ Here's what I accomplished: ✅ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: I designed an intuitive workflow within Flow Designer that empowers patients to seamlessly request therapy appointments, thereby enhancing accessibility and driving greater engagement. ✅ 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: I streamlined weekly reporting through automation, eradicating manual effort and ensuring consistent, precise data to inform strategic decision-making. ✅ 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: I implemented an automated email notification system, enriching communication by keeping both patients and staff informed and engaged throughout the appointment scheduling process ✅ 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: By leveraging process automation, I significantly alleviated the administrative workload, liberating valuable time and resources for the team. I am busy going through ServiceNow User Stories for the rest of the year, and it gave me the idea to post about the importance of having a proper user story in software development. In the world of software development and product management, the humble user story plays a pivotal role. User stories are more than just tasks; they are the foundation upon which successful products are built. Here’s why crafting them meticulously is crucial: Clarity & Alignment: A well-defined user story ensures everyone on the team understands the user’s needs and the desired outcome. It aligns your team’s efforts towards a common goal. User-Centric Approach: User stories keep the focus on the end-user, promoting empathy and a deeper understanding of their needs, pain points, and desires. Efficiency: Clear user stories make development smoother. They reduce ambiguity, prevent scope creep, and save time and resources.
