They say a Masters degree is tough. And they are right! I find myself constantly managing between classes, assignments, group projects and applying for summer internships. ⚡ Manage ⚡ I haven’t missed a single lecture, working out 4 times a week, and at the top of my assignment submission game. The trick is my daily and weekly to-do lists. Striking things off it is an endorphin boost I did not know existed. However, this Saturday I chose to delay my tasks by a day and instead go out with friends. And it was a refreshing break I did not know I needed. I now strive for balance and self-care 🌸 As a Product Manager, prioritizing time and tasks is my job. Aren’t we doing it in our daily lives all the time? I am thrilled to share that my internship journey at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) continues to evolve, as I've been given the opportunity to extend it until December. The past few months have been an incredible learning experience, and I'm excited to see where this extended journey will take me. As a Strategy Intern, I've worked on various projects, allowing me to refine my skills in strategy development and implementation. From conducting in-depth market analyses to identifying strategic focus areas and establishing potential partnerships, each day has presented new challenges and opportunities for growth. One particularly enriching aspect of my role has been understanding the technical requirements and tailoring outreach to match those needs. I've successfully bridged the gap between technical concepts and high-level presentations, further enhancing my skill set. Additionally, crafting innovative marketing strategies to enhance our strategic outreach has been both fulfilling and impactful. I owe much of my progress to the incredible mentorship and guidance provided by my manager, Daniel Caraviello. Your continuous support, leadership opportunities, and insightful advice have been instrumental in my development. I would also like to express my gratitude to Paul Nkansah and Pam Sheff for giving me this opportunity and to the entire corporate partnerships team. As my internship continues, I am actively exploring full-time opportunities in the fields of strategy and product management starting from January 2024. Since we’re about a week away from it officially being fall, I wanted to take some time to reflect on my summer! My summer started off with a business trip to Colorado and New Mexico for my Building a Legacy in Engineering (BLE) internship. During this trip, I learned more about sustainable architecture and its history, Earthships, and how sustainable living can help a person’s health and the planet. A day after that trip, I went to Connecticut for my Synchrony externship. This externship provided professional development, a deeper understanding of fields like marketing, and also a case study competition, which my team ended up placing 2nd in. Then I started the IBM Accelerate program on the marketing and communications track. I learned about different types of marketing fields/aspects such as storytelling, field marketing, and product marketing, just to name a few. This program continued for 8 weeks and I learned about a new topic each week. A few days after that program had started, my internship at RSM US LLP began. I worked as a CDI (Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion) intern. I did a variety of tasks during this internship, such as: - Interviewing members of an employee network group (ENG) and providing their answers to leadership to help them better that ENG’s experience at work - Evaluating and revamping 20 of RSM’s lesson plans for their Boys & Girls Clubs of America partnership - Developing an inventory for RSM’s CDI team - Analyzing, researching, and presenting 11 different potential partner companies/organizations for RSM’s 11 ENGs in the Chicago market (this was my capstone project) RSM also provided me with LinkedIn Learn so I challenged myself to utilize this tool. I took about 60 courses on LinkedIn Learning about various topics like CDI, marketing, unconscious bias, and more. RSM also held educational programs that I took part in, such as the Blockchain Fellowship Program 101. Overall, my time at RSM was well worth it as I met great people who were willing to help me succeed. My mentors Dennis A. Nicholson III, CPO, Nicolo Enriquez, and Jennifer Barnes were so helpful and gave me a wealth of knowledge! I also met my capstone project partner Dasia Hooks, and we ended up with the 1st place intern capstone project in our CDI group. All the while, during these internships and programs, I was taking 3 summer classes at Southern New Hampshire University (which I ended up getting all A’s in and placed on the Honor Roll list), continuing with my BLE internship, taking part in Novartis’ HBCU Mentorship Program (special thanks to my mentor Jentora White-Richardson, PharmD, RPh), and doing my assignments as a Management Leadership for Tomorrow Career Prep fellow. I also did the 2023 Goldman Sachs Virtual Insight Series program and attended the Ally Moguls in the Making reunion in Detroit, Michigan. I did a lot of learning and growing over the summer and I can’t wait to see what new opportunities this fall will bring to me!

Morgan Foundation for the award of a follow on grant which will make sure to provide our interns with the resources to make an impact! Some quick tips for onboarding interns from back when I lead the Co-Op program at Philips: -Understand what each individual would like to get out of the program. It may not be the exact role and responsibility you had in mind, so be flexible. For example, Zeel will also be supporting me in my financial model development. 1. Set clear roles and responsibilities ahead along with deliverables. RACI charts are gold 2. Set a meeting cadence and communication plan to support them 3. Just from a house keeping point of view, have offer letters, NDAs, and an onboarding document that outlines key resources and systems they'll need. Have you supported summer interns in the past? Reflecting on my journey from intern to where I am today, I can’t stress enough the importance of giving your best, especially in those early stages of your career. While no one wants to feel exploited, embracing every opportunity to go above and beyond can truly propel your growth. As an entry-level zone support officer, I seized every chance to take initiative, learn, and support my team. Even without a direct manager, I stepped up to ensure projects were on track and stakeholders engaged. I was scouted for a new role not just any role, but one that promised greater responsibility and opportunity for growth. I transitioned into the role of a project coordinator, where I found myself supervising other zone support officers, a responsibility that I embraced wholeheartedly. It’s been an incredible journey of learning, growth, and evolution. Today, I find myself not just leading projects, but also mentoring interns and fellow officers, passing on the knowledge and skills I’ve gained along the way. It’s a testament to the power of seizing every opportunity, giving your best, and never underestimating the potential for growth, even in the face of challenges.Don’t underestimate the power of your mindset in shaping your career trajectory. 🎉 Happy National Intern Day! 🎉 Today, in the USA anyway, we celebrate the incredible contributions of interns and the transformative experiences they bring to the table. I interned, off-and-on, for an extended period of 4 years during summer breaks, at HRG, under the tutelage of some amazing managers. Those experiences were pure gold and opened up more doors for me at other sister companies. And believe it or not, those intern days might've been what sparked my love for travel too! ✈️ Internships are like the secret sauce that brings all that textbook knowledge to life in the real world. It's where the real magic happens! And as an event manager, I've had the pleasure of witnessing interns transform from unsure rookies to confident professionals. It's incredible to see them take charge and tackle challenges like rockstars! 🌟 Working with intern-placement as a Program Manager earlier in my career taught me a great lesson: ALL industries thrive on diversity and inclusivity, and interns bring in fresh perspectives that make our teams even stronger. This Summer, I’m interning at Brightly, and it's already week 2! I've decided to document my journey on LinkedIn by sharing weekly updates with advice and insights. Here are 3 important lessons I've learned as a Product Management intern at Brightly: - Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Asking questions is key to learning and growing in your role. - Don’t hesitate to admit when you don’t know something. Internships are about learning, so it's okay not to have all the answers. - Engage with others, whether it's your team members or fellow interns. I wish I knew this sooner I was told that just work hard for next 2 years and things would be EASIER. Moved in 2017 from 🇵🇰 to 🇺🇸 as the youngest one in my family. Landed in Houston and knew no one there. Was it difficult? Of course it was! 📚 Made a mistake of not doing enough research and chose a college which was non accredited. I was definitely struggling but I was still happy that I am living my dream of studying in the United States Transferred College and graduated with Associates degree in 2019. Worked for a year during my OPT as an international student. I had to work 2 jobs (7 days a week) to make the ends meet - *8:30AM to 5PM as an Intake Coordinator Immediately change and drive to next job 5:30PM to 11:30PM as a Pharmacy Technician* -> Did it get easier? No way! 🎓 Started my 2 remaining years of Bachelors Degree at University of Washington. This is when the real story begins. Texas to Washington. Everyone asked me that you just got settled in Texas and now you are making a big change again. And my answer to them was that I was too comfortable in that life and I felt like there was no room for growth anymore. 🚀 After attending University of Washington, I took too much on me. I started creating content, got involved in various organizations, even started my own club and bagged 15+ Product Management Internship offers. Coming from a non traditional background, getting into Product Management was not easy specially as an international student. But I knew that was my goal and I made a plan on how to get there. 🌟 And then, my proudest moment: graduating at the top of my class, leading the School of Public Health as a gonfalonier. It was a validation of every late night, every obstacle overcome. All I am trying to share is don’t believe who say that things are going to be easier - It will never be. All you have to see is that you are content with your life.
