Fleet expansion with two "new" vessels JD-Contractor’s fleet expands with two “new” DP2 Offshore Installation Vessels to service the Green Transition Offshore. Recognizing that the energy and resources going into the manufacturing of vessels constitutes an extensive part of a vessel’s lifetime carbon/resource footprint, it was decided not to just order two new builds. As a part of the company’s Sustainability Strategy, it was decided to invest in two ships which had become redundant in the oil and gas sector. The ships are currently being up-cycled to continue operations in both the Renewables, the Offshore and the Subsea Construction sector. The Seismic vessel Viking Vanquish was acquired in April 2023 and renamed C-Installer. The ship is currently going through the final phase of a major refurbishment where all seismic equipment and appliances have been removed, and a large working deck has been formed, which can be mobilized with equipment for laying and burial of subsea cables as well as setups for other types of subsea construction. C-Installer is expected to be in operation from April 2024. In September 2023 the AHTS Maersk Detector was acquired from Maersk Supply Service. The ship has been converted to the Danish flag and is in the final stage of being updated and reactivated. Going forward it will be named Detector, and it is scheduled to commence on its first project in the Offshore Renewables sector in March 2024. However, it is also expected to, to some degree, to continue servicing the Oil and Gas sector on the spot market. The contracts have been entered into on behalf of institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management and include two additional options. In 2023, Bernhard Schulte Offshore GmbH ordered the design and construction of two such vessels from ULSTEIN, a contract which included options for two + two vessels. These options have been transferred to institutional investors advised by J.P. JP Morgan adding methanol-ready vessels pair to fleet JP Morgan has contracted Norway-based Ulstein Verft to deliver two methanol-ready commissioning service operation vessels (CSOVs). Bringing Offshore Wind Manufacturing to New Bedford, Massachusetts: Avangrid is partnering with global offshore wind lifting equipment manufacturer Liftra, committing the seed funding and supply procurement to establish the first-in-the-nation “davit crane” manufacturing facility at the South Coast Mills site near the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal. Davit cranes lift equipment and tools for workers to build, maintain and repair the turbines, and are a critical component for offshore wind turbines not currently manufactured in the US. Project submissions in Massachusetts demonstrate the power of offshore wind to deliver local economic benefits. New Bedford is slated to be home to the first US manufacturing facility for cranes capable of building the wind turbines that currently come from overseas. Van Oord’s heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen will get a major upgrade.
