On June 19th, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were notified of their freedom that was issued over two and a half years prior by the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, we celebrate! Happy Juneteenth/Freedom Day!

To date, ABAC has been a conduit in providing scholarships valued close to $1 million dollars to well over 75 students over its 45+ year history. With our current success in providing scholarships in partnership with the University of Georgia and Georgia State University, we have established as a goal the endowment of financial capital that will allow ABAC to continue to provide financial assistance through perpetuity and with our newest partner, Kennesaw State University! This endowment was officially activated last month during a signing ceremony with Dean CATHERINE KAUKINEN, Associate Dean Gregory Paul and ABAC President Darryn Persaud MBA. ABAC is proud to serve as a focal point of financial and human resources to up and coming media and advertising professionals. The three respective endowment funds were developed to offer financial assistance via scholarships and financial awards to support the needs of Public Relations, Journalism, Media and Marketing students. Since its inception, recipients of scholarships and financial awards have excelled academically and continue to develop their skills to be competitive within Atlanta's Mediascape. Please visit www.abacatlanta.com to learn more about these scholarships, past winners and how to donate to enhance these endowment funds today!

This month’s Board Member Spotlight goes to Chris Gibbs. He has been on our board for 4 years and serves as our amazing Spring Fling Chair, one of our most well-attended events. He moved to LA for a bit but came back home to Atlanta a few years ago. You’ll catch him making the rounds at all our events! He loves traveling, cooking, and music. Favorite quote: “I have a lot of growing up to do. I realized that the other day inside my fort.” Chris’ best piece of professional advice that he has received: Listen intently; talk less; try to understand things from their perspective; don’t waste their time.
