This month's i3P Delivery Leadership Group had a clear focus on how we work together to create industry wide shifts. Members reflected on our common themes and cultural aspects of growing innovation cultures. This included how we map and deliver benefit and value systematically. Two co-investment opportunities, one from the Health and Safety Executive and the other from Nuclear Restoration Services, were explored, both in the area of Safety 🚑 👷🏻♀️🦺 As we refresh our delivery programme, a number of new working groups are forming to complement and go deeper with our collaborative work. I very much enjoy the work that the folks at 8000hours.org do. We face so many big questions and challenges today sometimes it's hard to know where to put your time to have the greatest impact. I found this article on great power conflicts really interesting. We are facing so many challenges, and without the communication and leadership skills necessary at all levels, we're at real risk of misunderstanding and escalation. What I like the most in this article is the suggestion that by demonstrating leadership and working to make conflict less likely, for example by reducing competitive pressures on the development of dangerous technology, and improving international cooperation, the authors think that you might be helping to reduce other risks, like the chance of future pandemics. I had the pleasure of meeting a very engaged group of leaders during my visit to EDF (UK) Hinkley Point B last month to deliver leadership workshops focusing on building emotional resilience with my colleagues Rebecca Farooq MCMI ChMC, Laure Fievet MCMI ChMC and Lauren Nicholls. It was brilliant to have the opportunity to provide our expertise on maintaining resilience levels whilst navigating change as the nuclear power plant moves into decommissioning. Moving from an operating plant to decommissioning is a significant change that brings a unique set of challenges. Here are my top 3 takeaways from our workshops: 1. Resilience is not innate – it takes time and practice to keep learning new ways to keep your own and your team’s resilience high 2. There’s no one size fits all – as a leader, you need to learn your non-negotiables that help sustain a good level of resilience for you and your team 3.
