🚀 Reflecting (a bit too late) on the last day of the space resources week 2024! 🌌 Day 3 was very valuable to me, diving deep into innovative business cases within the space industry. Startups showcased their adaptability in navigating key questions like identifying customers and assessing market size (this is still a tricky question if you ask me) . Among them, Orbital Mining Corporation stood out to me for its groundbreaking microgrid electrical system designed for lunar environment, a true precursor of other technologies and businesses. This technology not only powers lunar science but also has applications on Earth, like electric aircraft, leveraging high-density power cells and efficient converters. Exciting dual-model ventures like this signify progress both in space exploration and sustainable business development. Moreover, discussions highlighted the importance of foundational infrastructure for fostering technological advancements. I strongly believe that establishing robust power value chain is pivotal for the future of space exploration and resource utilization. The event also provided a comprehensive overview of space resource initiatives, featuring contributions from major agencies like NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, European Space Agency - ESA, and JAXA: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, alongside insights from various countries such as Australia and Korea and we should keep an eye on these countries' developments. While progress is evident, there's a notable focus on technologies further along the value chain, raising questions about the foundational infrastructure's development. ¿Are these businesses relying too heavily on government initiatives for this infrastructure? It's one key question to also think about in the coming years. In essence, the space resources week was a convergence of diverse perspectives from government, academia, private sector, and social organizations. From futuristic concepts to practical insights, it served as both a reality check and a source of inspiration for current and future generations in the space exploration journey. Also, I am always very glad to find more fellow Colombians and people from LATAM joining these conversations such as Isabel Casasbuenas Cabezas involved in research at Colorado School of Mines and community development projects in colombia regarding geological research, and promising young students from Colombia working with space startups.

Helping EXPAND and Accelerate Israel’s Space Trajectory This past Thursday, 30.05.2024, I had the distinct honor of being invited to take part in a panel at the launch of the EXPAND space-tech accelerator. Founded by the innovation hub, Creation-Space, EXPAND expand offers qualifying startups the foundations for developing ground-breaking space exploration and moon and mars habitation technologies. Further yet, EXPAND startups will be singularly prepared for integration into NASA programs. In Mitzpeh Ramon, located on the northern rim of the Ramon Crater, that some say has a moon-like landscape, I joined a distinguished panel that included Oren Hefetz, JNF USA Chief of Staff, Ofir Kahani, Chief of Staff to Director General, Ministry of Negev & Galilee, and Ronen Yehosua, Morphisec CEO. We discussed a variety of space-industry related topics and fielded questions from a fervently space-loving audience, that included the Director General of the Israel Space Agency, Mr. Uri Oron. On my part, I introduced the Ministry of Economy’s (MOE) Growth Administration and the National Program for Economic Growth (NPEG), discussing how we are reigniting growth across the country’s economic sectors, and specifically, how we are helping Israel’s space industry expand to new frontiers (where no, or maybe a few humans have gone before), including: Advancing the Space Law from within the Ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and the Israel Space Agency. Advancing additional space related legislation. Increasing domestic and international investment in space-tech. Connecting space-tech startups to key players in Israel’s space industry, both for collaboration and to facilitate use of existing infrastructure, such as wind tunnels. Studying how to increase exposure and interest in space through education and other venues. The aforementioned Director General, Mr. Oron and Dr. Roy Naor, Creation-Space CEOe, also gave fascinating lectures, respectively, on the where the Israeli space sector is and where it is going and the latest and greatest in which Creation Space is involved. And let’s not forget the networking on the backdrop of a delightful reception. Special thanks to Mr. Lion David, Creation-Space’s VP Ventures for putting this wonderful launch event together. Wishing EXPAND all the luck in the world, and outside of it. #panel #space #npeg
