Please join me in congratulating Brandon Llewellyn on his first solo contribution to the Parakeeto blog. 🎉 In fairness, Brandon helps write most of the content that is published under my name as well. What's special about this post, however, is that everything, including the idea for the topic, was all him - no input from anyone on the team. This gets me excited for a few reasons: 1. It's another great example of how to apply these fundamental unit economics we spend so much time focusing on at Parakeeto to another real-world use case... figuring out the ROI on a process improvement. I think he nailed it! 2. Even though his job doesn't require him to develop deep expertise in agency profitability metrics - he's doing it anyway and applying that knowledge in this kind of way. It's a reminder of how lucky we are to have him on our team and the level of expertise he's been developing during his time here. 3. I can finally pack up my wooden backdrop, ship it to Brandon, and let him take over content creation at Parakeeto from here on out! (Just kidding, don't worry Brandon, you're safe... for now.)

How do MedTech companies waste time? Here are 3 things I see a lot: 👇 𝟭. 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 This is THE worst way to waste time, and it's so bad I have to break it into two parts... Part 1: The SOP's and processes themselves. Everyone thinks MedTronic and J&J have a corner on the QMS market, so of COURSE we should blatantly plagiarize their SOP's and use them for our startup or mid-size company. But when you do this, it's like strapping the rudder from an oceanliner onto a speedboat (or what USED to be a speedboat..,). Part 2: Sharepoint & Docusign seem cheap at first, until you realize how much time employees spend: a. looking for documents that are supposed to be “controlled,” (haha, they aren’t) b. wondering if they’re looking at the most recent revision (nope, the latest version is fully approved but it will be a few days before we obsolesce the old version – sorry!). c. emailing everyone asking for signatures, and then rerouting the documents again after they finally get rejected by the last person needed for approval (oh well, at least the VP of Product Development didn’t lose the Change Order this time, right?). 𝟮. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝘀 & 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Engineers hate documentation (why do you think Project Managers get paid so well?), but since they’re used to Excel, they’ll assume everything else is even worse. Which means Design Controls documentation gets put off as long as possible. This problem is compounded by the fact that your Trace Matrix and Risk Matrix won’t be linked together. When it finally starts to unravel, it will take many late nights manually checking to see if all of the risks have been addressed in the design, and that the sample sizes are appropriate for the level of risk to that feature. And if it does affect sample sizes... yeah, it’ll definitely affect the submission itself… Because when Regulatory realizes the risk is higher than expected, they don’t sign off on anything until Verification testing gets revised, so… Morale goes down, and turnover goes up. 😪 𝟯. 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝟵𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝟭𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. Whoever said, “Quality is Free,” never had to write a check for a sign-on bonus for the VP of Quality, amirite? (Phil, just look what you've done...) Money is the air companies breathe, so they have turn a profit. That said, it's such a waste when we ask Quality to move their desk out to the quarantine cage and have them perform a 100% sort so we can ship SOME product instead of investing in a solid Root Cause Analysis.
