On January 28, 2024, three US soldiers were killed in a drone attack on a US military outpost in Jordan: Sergeant William Rivers Specialist Kennedy Sanders Specialist Breonna Moffett The loss of these heroes weighed deeply on me today. Last week, I conducted training for US Army Combat Medics on Neurology and Burns related to combat trauma. Typically, I start these sessions with a personal combat experience to underscore the subject's importance. Visualizing the Mass Casualty (MASCAL) situation the medical professionals faced after this attack in Jordan is unimaginable. This tragedy emphasizes the crucial need for consistent combat trauma training to maintain sharp muscle memory skills. In the US Army, it's specifically the duty of PAs to train combat medics, ensuring they can save as many lives as possible. The names of these fallen heroes should be prominent across all news feeds. We must never normalize the loss of military personnel, and as medical professionals, staying current and sharp in our medical skills is paramount. Soldiers enter combat trusting they have skilled medics and PAs who will be there to save their lives if needed. Combat Medic rules: Good Soldiers will die. Doc can't save everyone. Doc will go through hell to break rules 1 & 2.

This makes me angry. No words can describe it. There is absolutely ZERO reason why any Marine, sailor, soldier, airmen, etc. or employee at any organization should have to jump through hoops to get help without losing credibility. Sit down, have conversations, break bread with your people. Don’t let your ego get in the way of taking care of anyone. I don’t care if you’re a team leader, manager, director, Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, Vice President, CEO, Battalion Commander, etc., pick your title, if you can’t have a conversation with someone about themselves and what they’re dealing with, personally or professionally, you have zero business being in in the position you’re in. Take your rank off, drop your title, lose the ego. Everyone is dealing with it in some way, shape, or form at some level. Talk about it! #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalillness #mentalhealthtips #military #veterans #veteranshelpingveterans #army #navy #marinecorps #airforce #spaceforce #coastguard #business #healthcare #highereducation #engineering #insurance #banking #realestate #plumbing #construction #government #industrial #ptsd #stressmanagement #burnoutprevention #quietquitting #toxicworkplace #culture #culturematters #leadership #leadershipmatters #leadershipfirst #people #peoplematter #peoplefirst

Are you eligible for VA health care benefits? You may be eligible for VA health care benefits if you served in the active military, naval, or air service and didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge. If you enlisted after September 7, 1980, or entered active duty after October 16, 1981 You must have served 24 continuous months or the full period for which you were called to active duty, unless any of the descriptions below are true for you. This minimum duty requirement may not apply if any of these are true: ~ You were discharged for a disability that was caused—or made worse—by your active-duty service, or ~ You were discharged for a hardship or “early out,” or ~ You served before September 7, 1980 If you’re a current or former member of the Reserves or National Guard You must have been called to active duty by a federal order and completed the full period for which you were called or ordered to active duty. If you had or have active-duty status for training purposes only, you don’t qualify for VA health care. If you served in certain locations and periods during the Vietnam War era you are eligible for VA health care. There’s a medical provider shortage in the military Billets have been eliminated and the recruiting crisis cannot keep up with the number of providers who are retiring….and so available resources are beginning to decline. This burns a hole in my heart… Our warfighters, #woundedwarriors, and their families, will suffer the consequences. This could lead to delays in accessing healthcare services, longer wait times for appointments, limited availability of specialists, and reduced clinic hours, resulting in delayed diagnoses, treatment, and follow-up care for medical conditions. As a result, overworked medical staff may experience burnout, potentially compromising the quality of care delivered to patients….and shortages of specialized providers such as mental health professionals may limit the range of treatment options available Medical care is a key component to performance restoration and getting our troops back in the fight. (medical readiness to mission readiness) Not having ample and adequate access to healthcare will not only impact #warfighter health (and even family readiness), but may result in degradation of capabilities and overall operational readiness. What’s the best solution? Will civilian providers be approved? Will access to off-base care be granted? What does the current military medical community think? The shortage of medical providers within the military can have significant implications…. #mentalhealth #physicaltherapy #humanperformance #healthcare #military #marines #marinecorps #semperfi #semperfidelis #army #navy #airforce #coastguard #spaceforce #health #wellness #fitness #medical #medicalcare #tacticalathlete #militaryfamilies

This article shows that a modern armed force has to be a compact structure, to include military medical service. As a matter of fact, this applies also to necessity of having a military justice system:
