Pyrodiversity for biodiversity. Fire, when stewarded, respectfully acknowledged, and danced with, is one of our best tools as Land Stewards to transform and heal massive landscapes. The regenerative properties and partnerships between fire, the soil microbiome, the seed stocks, the carbon and water cycle, plant and wildlife communities are astonishing if allowed on the ground. Fire has always been a key characteristic of bioregional health until the advent of industrial colonial forestry practices. No other element so strongly evokes the anthropocentric urge to control, contain, and vilinize. And yet it has always lit the way to the next chapter of social evolution.
