#NowReading: Check out this new resource from National Wildlife Federation on how capturing carbon emissions from industry can lead to potential air quality benefits! The resource includes information from GPI's study, Carbon Capture Co-benefits: Carbon Capture’s Role in Removing Pollutants and Reducing Health Impacts. From NWF's resource: "The study found that in addition to the climate benefit of cutting CO2 emissions, co-pollutant removal—a part of the engineering process for carbon capture—also improves air quality and public health." Check out this great resource on a little-understood potential benefit of carbon capture -- improved air quality. Congrats and appreciation to Simone H. Stewart, Ph.D., Sarah Kallgren, and Jake Ferrell at National Wildlife Federation for putting this together! https://lnkd.in/eS5KzDeD

Australia, we're in the midst of an extinction crisis. It's time to act. As Peta Bulling, ACF’s nature campaigner, explained on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News, last year saw an alarming spike in the number of species added to the threatened species list. Our latest analysis shows that in 2023 there were 144 additions to the list, bringing the total to 2,212 animals, plants and ecological communities at risk of extinction. 🦘 @tanyaplibersek @albomp we cannot lose the path to zero new extinctions! This is all because of our weak nature laws. In 2024 we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make sure our national laws actually protect nature. Join us in ramping up the pressure: https://acf.to/3Z3Zm7X #auspol

"Coyote Ridge is not your typical open space preserve. Protecting checkerspot habitat comes first, and inviting the public to enter and recreate on such sensitive habitat while prioritizing endangered species is an experiment. A study conducted near Palo Alto found that the presence of walkers and joggers led to a loss of biodiversity and number of butterflies compared to areas with no recreation. To give checkerspots a chance to roam free before visitors arrive, Coyote Ridge will have limited seasonal hours, opening late in the winter and spring. These extra hours give the butterflies time to warm their wings, allowing them to fly away easily so as not to get trampled or otherwise disturbed by visitors. “'We’re really working on nature time,' says Shellhammer. 'We’re trying to make sure that the butterflies have time to wake up, feed, and spread their wings before people come out here.'” Article by Guananí Gómez-Van Cortright in Bay Nature Magazine. #checkerspot #butterflies #conservation #grasslands #habitat #endangeredspecies #threatenedspecies #california #biodiversity #environment #parks #wildlife #journalism
The newly opened 1,800-acre Máyyan ‘Ooyákma–Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve is home to 13 endangered or threatened species. In honor of #WorldElephantDay, we are sharing interesting facts about elephants. The answer is below! At RTI, we integrate scientific expertise into technical approaches to combat wildlife crime, address climate change, improve conservation practices, and support efforts for animals and humans to live in harmony. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gXT6kz2Y Answer: There are fewer Asian elephants—only about 50,000 vs. approximately 415,000 African elephants!

RIPPLE EFFECTS OF HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT. Everyday elephants are lost to conflict, but it's the conservation orgs, the rangers, the scouts and wildlife orphanages that step up to make a difference! Not so happy #WorldBeeDay: 1 in 3 bee, butterfly and hoverfly species is in decline. More shockingly: Around 4 out of 5 crop and wild flowering plant species depend on animal pollination. And you know: no pollinators, no food. With the #EUPollinators Initiative, we are working to protect all bees and pollinators and reverse their decline, something that’s being fuelled by the climate and environmental crises: https://europa.eu/!6PymrM Let's protect our pollinators.

My act for biodiversity today will be to find at take a picture of 3 insects and learn their names by heart - also creating a water spot as it is very dry now - what would you do today? 🦋🪲🐞🐝🐜 #ActForBiodiversityToday
