This is a tricky topic. No follower count doesn't define success, but at the same time, follower count does in fact matter. It matters because mass advertising works. Does the fact Walmart sends millions of fliers to their audience matter to their success? Of course it does. Is it specifically why they are successful. No not really because before that mass advertising would work, first they had to be successful on some level. So the ability to reaches the masses doesn't define their success but it is a large part of it. If you have a product or service, the larger your audience, the more successful you will be. How you engage that audience, the community you build with it, the problems you solve, how targetted the audience actually is, and many other things do matter. A person using media marketing with 0 followers is certainly not going to be as successful as the one using media marketing with tens of thousands of followers if all else is equal.
