Hi LinkedIn fam, I want to share one incident.
I received a message from a recent graduate eager to start his career in data science.
His message was heartfelt and clear: despite graduating from a good college known for high placement rates, he had been unable to secure a job for over a year.
When I asked about his situation, he said, "I've been searching for a job for the past year without success. Every position requires experience, so I'm willing to work for free just to gain that experience and improve my chances of getting hired."
This highlights a significant issue for fresh graduates.
Dear Companies,
Consider giving fresh graduates a chance.
They may lack experience, but they bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. Investing in their potential can yield incredible rewards for your business.

👉Skills and experience are related, but they are not the same thing.
Skills are the abilities and knowledge that a person has acquired through training, education, or practice. They can be eg. technical, such as programming languages or software, or soft skills, such as leadership or communication.
.
👉Experience, on the other hand, is the knowledge and understanding that a person has gained through working in a particular field or occupation. It can include both the specific skills that were used on the job and the broader knowledge and understanding of the industry or profession.
.
In general, skills are the tools that a person has to work with, while experience is the knowledge of how to use those tools in real-world situations. It's common for people to have both skills and experience in a particular field, but it's also possible for someone to have one without the other.
.
So what is your view about Skills vs Experience. Let me know about your thoughts in the comment section.

If you're a fresh graduate or student aiming for a tech job or internship off-campus in FAANG Or big MNCs, prioritize your preparation with the following steps:
1. Master Basic Programming and Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA).
2. Strengthen your understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including:
- Operating Systems (OS),
- Database Management Systems (DBMS),
- Object-Oriented Programming (OOPs),
- Computer Networks.
3. Focus on either:
- Building impressive projects without competitive programming experience OR
- Excelling in CP while also completing two mini projects.
4. Maintain a competitive CGPA (at least 7.5 or 8 to be on safe side).
Don't ignore this :)
*(If you need tips and actually working tricks for a good CGPA, do leave a comment below).
5. Start Learning in public or open source contribution for more visibility.
6. Understand System Design concepts(not so important).
While essential for experienced professionals, it's less critical for freshers compared to the aforementioned points.
All the best :)
3 things I noticed after going through 800+ resumes in the past few days:
1. There are lots of aspiring data analysts/scientists out there — not just fresh graduates, but experienced professionals who want to shift their career and are committed enough to spend months and significant budgets on courses and mentoring.
2. Most resumes are not easily readable. Experiences are listed in the wrong order and education placed somewhere difficult to find.
3. There’s bias towards familiarity especially when I come across candidates who used to work or are still working in the company and department I used to work in.

At times, I see a high school diploma as an accomplishment on the resumes of professionals with 10-year careers. It is better to avoid such things, even if you are nostalgic for the good old days.
When you're fresh out of college, the education section is your lifeline. If you've completed a study project on data analysis using Python, or developed a mobile app as part of a team project, these are worth mentioning. Achievements like presenting a paper at a student conference or winning a coding competition should be included. These are your proof of potential.
As you gain experience in the industry, the importance of the education section begins to diminish. It's similar to job titles - they hold a lot of weight initially, but their significance tends to expire after 10-15 years.
Adapt the education section to your current career stage. After 1 to 5 years, you can remove your high school achievements.
When it comes to listing your minor, consider its relevance to the job you're applying for. Include it only if it adds value to your application. After 10 years, condense the information about your university or college to a single line.
For those still in college and haven't graduated yet, you still should include your education in your resume. Simply put your expected graduation date. It gives potential employers an idea of your timeline.
List your scores only if they are outstanding. If you graduated summa cum laude or were the top of your class, include that in your resume. However, if your GPA is something like 2.7 or even 3.3 (4.0 grading scale), it's not particularly impressive and might be better left off your resume.
