Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope. On this MLK Day, let's honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy and work towards positive change in our communities. Here are two ways you can get involved: 1. Community Service: Participate in or organize a community service project that promotes equality and justice. This could involve volunteering at a local shelter, cleaning up a park, or contributing to any initiative that helps make our communities a better place. 2. Education and Reflection: Take time to educate yourself and others about MLK's life and the civil rights movement. Engage in discussions with family, friends, or colleagues about the significance of MLK's work and how it relates to issues of inequality that still persist today. Watch a documentary or read books that delve into his teachings and the impact he had on society. MLK Day is not just a day off but an opportunity to reflect on the past and inspire action for a better future. Let's honor his legacy by making a positive impact in our communities and continuing the work towards equality and justice.

Today on #MLKDay2024, we remind ourselves of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s commitment to the intersection of social, racial, AND economic justice in the fight for structural change, with communities organizing for small business and cultural preservation to create the Beloved Community he came from in historic Sweet Auburn, Alabama. 📽 Watch our new film, "We're Still Here," to hear powerful stories of how communities across the country are building community wealth and resisting displacement. ➡ www.antidisplacement.org ---- A core strategy to the Civil Rights and Poor People's Campaign was building a network of people like Ella Baker, and organizations like the SCLC and NAACP, to co-organize national movements that fought for structural, economic and racial justice in the south AND the north. SBAN is building a network as well, of people and organizations across the United States and internationally, to build stronger strategies that preserve BIPOC-and-immigrant-owned small businesses, the backbone of our economy, and create new opportunities for wealth redistribution through community ownership of real estate that can help residents invest, build equity, preserve commercial space affordability, prevent physical + cultural displacement, and heal the kind of Urban Renewal that fractured BIPOC communities in MLK’s day. 🔅 Want to learn more and see strategies on the ground? Why Beloved Community? “Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.” - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Today we honor one of the most celebrated change-agents in our country's history, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who serves as an exemplar for our mission is to build sustainable change. We do so by supporting regions to further their collaborative journey for racial and economic equity, and by centering our most marginalized populations as we advance towards the beloved community. This looks like empowering teams to drive change through equity audits and thought partnership; guiding leaders through capacity-building sessions + equity work plans; and curating customized frameworks for operationalizing equity commitments. Our approach is universal, and achieves measurable systemic change in housing, workforce, and education. from the article: "Of course, there is still more work to be done. We will continue to push forward to make the internet more accessible and to help others harness the power and opportunity of the internet. You can help too! One small way to act right now — the Affordable Connectivity Program helps make high speed internet available to millions of US households through a $30 a month subsidy, but this program will end in April 2024 unless Congress acts to allocate additional funding. There is a bill before Congress to extend funding for this critical program. Take a moment to let your Congresspeople add your voice on the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024 to keep that connection strong for everyone." I don't think people realize how scarce (usable) internet is, even within the US. Any more than an hour outside my home town, and you're lucky to get cell service, let alone proper internet. In the city, I still see speeds as low as 5Mbps touted as "high speed", connections are still being metered for no reason, and of course there's a racial component due to historical zoning practices like redlining. I think MLK would love to see Uncle Sam helping everyone have equal access to the internet. He was very much an old-school liberal who wanted to see egalitarianism wherever possible, backed by an accountable government with strong social safety nets, and this is exactly the kind of policy he would push for.
As Martin Luther King Jr. Day approaches, we are reminded of the ongoing pursuit for equity, justice, and a world with equal access to opportunities. In honor of Dr. King, we’ve partnered with some amazing organizations to help bridge the digital divide and foster inclusivity in our increasingly connected world. Stepped Care Solutions pays tribute to the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., whose unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and human dignity continues to resonate across generations. At a Medical Committee for Human Rights Convention in 1966, Dr. King said: “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman.” Guided by our principles, Stepped Care Solutions believes that social justice should be the driving force behind an effective care system. Although systemic and societal change won’t happen overnight, at the heart of our SC2.0 model is a proactive commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion that intentionally addresses injustices within current systems of care. In honour of MLK Jr., let’s persist in our efforts to eliminate barriers and ensure accessible, flexible, culturally safe mental health care for all. #MLKDay #SCS #WellBeingEverywhere

📣 Did you know that Martin Luther King's legacy extends beyond civil rights? His influence has been crucial in the real estate industry for black communities. Let's take a moment to recognize the importance of MLK in the world of real estate. 🏡 👉 Before the Fair Housing Act of 1968, racial discrimination was rampant in the housing market. Black families were denied the opportunity to purchase homes in certain neighborhoods, limiting their access to better schools, jobs, and opportunities. MLK fought tirelessly for fair housing laws to be implemented, ensuring equal housing opportunities for all. 🙌 👉 Thanks to his efforts, black families were able to break into previously restricted neighborhoods and build generational wealth through homeownership. MLK's impact can still be seen today, as the black homeownership rate has steadily increased over the years. 📈 👉 But the fight for equal housing continues. Redlining, gentrification, and discriminatory lending practices still exist, disproportionately affecting black communities. It is our responsibility to continue MLK's work and advocate for equal housing opportunities for all. 💪 👉 Let's honor Martin Luther King's legacy by working towards a more inclusive and equitable real estate industry. Together, we can create a brighter future for black families and communities. 🌟 #MLK #FairHousing #Equality #RealEstate #traceyhawkinsluxre #realtor

As Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.' Let us be the architects of that bend, shaping a brighter, more harmonious future for all... ""Restorative Justice"" In the ever-transforming world of criminal justice, a powerful undercurrent is reshaping our approach. Gone are the days when punishment alone was the answer. Now, we're awakening to the profound concept of restorative justice, a system that goes beyond retribution. This visionary approach focuses on not just punishing the offender, but on repairing the damage, acknowledging the needs of victims, and giving offenders a chance at rehabilitation. It's a grand symphony of justice, working to heal communities, and rekindle a sense of closure and responsibility. Criminal law and the pursuit of justice are an inseparable pair. The pillars of a just society stand upon the presumption of innocence, the safeguarding of due process, and the unyielding burden of proof carried by the prosecution. But they don't stand alone. Legal representation, appellate processes, and the transformative power of restorative justice form the collective conscience of justice. As responsible citizens, it is our solemn duty to champion a criminal justice system that relentlessly reaches for its loftiest ideals. It should be a realm where innocence is shielded, guilt is unequivocally held accountable, and where the enduring principles of fairness and equity shine as beacons of hope. By embracing this mission, we are not mere spectators; we are the architects of the unfolding narrative of justice in our society, sculpting its path toward a future that is both brighter and more harmonious.
