CSIRO, in collaboration with Boeing Australia, has released an exciting roadmap for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) that aims to revolutionize the Australian aviation industry. The roadmap emphasizes the utilization of locally sourced materials to produce and scale up SAF. With an improved material supply, Australia has the potential to produce approximately 5 billion liters of SAF annually by 2025, which can meet nearly 60% of its aviation fuel needs. "The Roadmap will identify opportunities to produce, scale and meet demand for feedstocks required to establish a SAF industry in the Asia Pacific region," said Max Temminghoff, lead Roadmap author and senior manager in the CSIRO Futures team. Qantas has long been at the forefront of driving the development of the SAF industry in Australia. As a leader in the field, they have established a substantial fund of AUD 400 million (USD 264 million) to support the growth of the industry. Notably, Airbus has also contributed to this fund, showcasing their commitment to the cause. With an increasing number of entities investing in SAF, there is a growing momentum towards sustainable aviation. #sustainability #SAF #Australia #aviation

Air Astana to get more A320NEO/CEOs, looks to retire E190s 🇰🇿 Kazakhstan's largest airline group, Air Astana, plans to increase its fleet to 56 aircraft by the end of 2024, group’s Executive Director Peter Foster told investors during a March 15 conference call, in which CentralAsia+ Aero participated. The group has already built the Central Asian and Caspian region’s largest fleet, with 50 jets. 32 of them belong to the parent airline, while another 18 aircraft fly with the LCC subsidiary FlyArystan. The group plans to take delivery of seven more Airbus A320neos: three for Air Astana and four for FlyArystan, in 2024. At the same time, it expects to get five older A320ceo modifications. These are intended to serve as a backup in case of continued technical issues with PW1100G engines on neo aircraft. Currently, Air Astana's fleet includes six A320neo and five larger A321neo aircraft. Additionally, FlyArystan operates seven A320neo aircraft. Foster explained that 34 PW1100G engines are to be removed as part of the manufacturer's recall in 2024. The group also plans to fly these aircraft less to ensure their engines are in good condition for the start of the high season. Furthermore, Air Astana is in negotiations with lessors to accelerate the retirement of five Embraer E190-E2 regional jets from its fleet, Foster said. Their leases are scheduled to expire in 2024-2025, but the group would like to completely phase them out by the end of this year. By 2028, the group plans to have 80 aircraft, with 46 in the parent airline's fleet and another 34 in FlyArystan's fleet. Subscribe to @CentralAsiaPlusAero
