Founder-CEO. Writer. I create spaces where communities & clinicians of color can thrive: Strong Children Wellness · Black Girl in Healthcare · Melanin & Medicine Collective. Queens girl. Mom. Bibliophile. MS Warrior
For so many of us Black founders who are committed to health justice, the most important work is not just creating what our communities ask for and need. The most critical work is self-discovery. The most critical work is understanding when & where the healthcare system, as it exists, devalued you, disrespected you or dismissed you. From this place, we can envision the solutions that we are most equipped to create, because we aren't just trying to heal others but also our past self. Without taking this time to reflect, the work we create is at risk of being merely a newer version of ineffective care models that still don't truly heal our people. This happens because too many of us are waiting for others to validate the work that our experiences, expertise and exposure have already qualified us to create. To actually bring community healing through healthcare, it's imperative that we don't just do the work we can do but we find the work we're called to do and fiercely commit to it. #healthjustice #healthcareleaders #communityhealth #healthequity

In looking at your value-based care (VBC) practice's division of tasks, do you have community health workers (CHW) integrated? While many tasks require a licensed professional, identifying tasks, such as screenings, connecting with community based organizations (CBOs), and decreasing health inequities, the CHW can be an essential part of your team. Read this informative article and consider adding this vital and underutilized role to your new entrant ACO - or try adding it if you aren't meeting all of your goals in your existing ACO! https://okt.to/OmLAUF
