Efforts to address the huge challenge of social work recruitment & retention can sometimes fuel the ‘crisis’ narrative in ways that are counterproductive. It’s right to be determined and clear and even angry about the state of things… but we need to let enough hope and light in too. What can we learn from social workers who love their jobs and stay in the profession? Stories like Jennifer’s are so important: *50 years in social work* https://lnkd.in/ekc28hiU

Never underestimate the importance of “work friends.” More than 25 years later, I cherish my lifelong friendships with these power women I met in the hallowed halls of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP as a summer associate. We have supported one another through weddings, children, divorce, the loss of parents and every other up and down life brings. I can’t imagine my life without them. May everyone be so fortunate to find such incredible “work friends” and the workplace that brings them together. Fellow HR Leaders: Promoting engagement and retention — and even getting employees into the office — requires more than intentional collaboration on work. Create opportunities and space for friendships to form. Professionals: Your place of work can be a valued community. Choose wisely. 🎉 High Five to Brenda, one of our Care Integrator, RNs in our Upper Midwest offices, for going above and beyond in the workplace! #HighFiveFriday ... 1. What is it like working at PHS (and how long have you been here)? For me, I like that I work with all different departments. I appreciate those willing to take on a request and finish it to the end. I like being able to work independently and the variety of goals. There is always something different every day. I have been with PHS for 8 years now! 🙌 2. Describe your personality: I can be tenacious, I hear no and think hmm what is another way to go about this. I love kids, LOVE. I am dedicated to the families I work with. I LOVE my job, love the families, the kiddos, getting to help them, and solving a problem that I was told no to, love all of it. I don't like it when there is no workaround and the answer is actually no. I would read on the beach under an umbrella all day every day if I was not here. 🙌 3. What is something people don't know about you? I have four boys, hence the gray hair. 🙌 4. Describe PHS in 3 words: Find a way or Make it happen . . . #PHSPeeps #PHSHighFive #PHSPeepsUMW #HomeCare #FridaysFaces #PHSHighFiveFriday #HighFiveCrew

People and Culture Innovator 🚀 | Fractional CHRO | Purpose Led Leader ⭐ | Champion of Strategic & Results-Based Organizations 🎯
Every summer, over the 4th of July our family gathers and experiences a new geographic location, a tradition my parents established decades ago, when it was just Mom, Dad, and their four girls. Over time, the original Wilk family of six has grown exponentially. And while sadly, they are both now gone, 😇 their commitment to prioritizing family time and exploration has created a lasting legacy that has bonded us closer with each passing year. In our busy lives, it’s easy to let time slip away without connecting meaningfully with those who matter most. My parents understood the importance of carving out dedicated time for family, and their foresight has given us a foundation of unity and love that we cherish deeply. Our reunions are a testament to their belief in the power of togetherness and the value of shared experiences. 💕 Bringing 23 busy people from across the country together annually isn’t as easy task. It requires a great deal of intentionality, planning, coordination (and an inordinate amount of food!🤣), but the payoff is huge. Just as our family reunions foster deeper connections and understanding among us, companies can benefit immensely from consistently bringing teams together. Regular team-building activities, retreats, and collaborative projects can sow the seeds of trusting, supportive relationships. When organizations prioritize these gatherings, they strengthen the bonds among team members, leading to enhanced collaboration, increased morale, and a more cohesive work environment. In both family and business, the investment in time and connection are the building blocks of enduring relationships and thriving communities. Today, and everyday, I’m so grateful for the important lessons my parents taught me about prioritizing relationships, and the values they instilled upon our entire family. 💕 #Grateful #Relationships #Inclusion #FosteringTeams

I help leaders build liberatory cultures so their teams can become more unified so they can focus on their mission and do great work together. Looking for Co-Conspirators to Change the World.
It's Mardi Gras and it feels like I should absolutely send flowers to New Orleanian Rhonda Broussard, the CEO of Beloved Community. I really love how Beloved Community approaches rest and time off. So often organizations try use unlimited PTO to solve the need for more rest. But research shows that people with unlimited PTO often end up taking *less* time off (https://buff.ly/3OGWwBE ). I believe it's because we're using an individual solution for a problem that requires a collective approach. When Rhonda and her team were explore how they could embed a practice of rest into their organization, they found they needed a collective approach and now take a monthly sabbatical together in February. https://buff.ly/3wn8cDe Rhonda makes sure to emphasize that this rest practice isn't about finding a way to be more productive. Community rest is an act of resistance and part of Beloved's mission to change workplaces and communities to be more compassionate, able to create with abundance, and move towards collective liberation. Beloved intentionally built their business model to include rest, which has allowed them to grow and thrive while embracing rest. I'm really inspired by how Rhonda built this liberation practice while growing an organization. Rhonda proves a liberated economic model CAN exist. We can thrive AND rest. Laissez les bon temps rouler! (Et bon repos!) This #BlackHistoryMonth, I'm celebrating 29 Black women who have influenced me through the ways they pursue their own liberation. Black women's work is often unrecognized and not cited, and this month I'm determined to pass out a few flowers to Black women. #Day13 #29LoveLettersToBlackWomen #GiveBlackWomenTheirFlowers

Tomorrow marks 1 year since my brother's passing 💔 . When I said our final goodbye, I promised to advocate for people like Mike. The pin in the picture was the first step and I thank those that still wear these from his funeral - I see you. To that end, Mike was a loyal employee for over 25 years at a major grocery 🥕 chain (we called him a 'cartologist' 🛒 ). Work was his whole life - it was what gave him meaning, purpose and a reason to get up every morning 😎 . While grateful for companies that actively hire those with disabilities, it should be more widely put into practice. ✔ Value to the Employer: 1/ Gaining hard working people that WANT to work & learn 2/ Punctual, willing to work rain or shine individuals 3/ Having a direct impact on the lives of the employee, their sense of belonging & to those that care for them - sometimes for their entire adult lives ✔ Value to Employee: 1/ A reason to thrive, to socialize, and have purpose every single day 2/ Ability to strive for a chance at independence - a little or a lot 3/ A sense of worth/purpose outside of their family/home life Mike worked for over 35 years in total, and he was proud to make it to minimum wage after all that time, at the age of 51. You read that correctly, and it needs to change 💰 . While you may be thinking of hiring someone with a disability (visible or non-visible), please also consider the types of managers that will hired to oversee their employees. This requires training in empathy, patience, kindness ❤️ & fairness. Always think...'What About Mike?' Mike being representative of those we need to take extra care of, particularly people that are vulnerable, those that may be misunderstood, and those that are different. They all matter, we all matter 🤲. https://lnkd.in/gqBmrTGW https://lnkd.in/g-uXvNym
