It's a no-brainer - and both sides are needed! This excellent Campaign for the Arts & University of Warwick report provides compelling insights into the material decline of arts funding in the UK. Australian and New Zealand arts and cultural organisations similarly face severe government funding pressure. Government funding is essential for the arts and creativity to thrive. Additionally, organisations must have commercial and business development capabilities to articulate, leverage, and advocate their inherent value through strategic partnerships. These partnerships are essential to underpin organisational purpose and generate funds for growth. Empowering arts organisations with the self-sustaining skills to define an enterprise-wide understanding of their value proposition and strategically unlock it is not just about survival—it's about ensuring they continue flourishing and enriching our society. Strategic collaborations can unlock new opportunities, drive innovation, attract new audiences, and secure new capabilities, revenues, and funding streams. But it's also a no-brainer that government funding is critical to providing organisations with the stability to plan for overall sustainability and lasting success. Additionally, sector-specific and organisational performance benchmarking across key measures, including Sandwalk's Cultural Attraction Index, is vital to evaluating performance, identifying new opportunities, and effective decision-making in strategic planning. Together, they can combine to create a vibrant, dynamic arts sector suitably equipped to meet today's and tomorrow's challenges. #ArtsFunding #StrategicPartnerships #ArtsLeadership #CulturalGrowth #CreativeIndustries #PerformanceBenchmarking #CreativeAustralia #CreativeVictoria #CreateNSW #ArtFund #IanPotter Sandwalk Partners

#ListeningSession 6 - GCF’s President and CEO, Matthew Randazzo and Chief Impact Officer, Rasheda Malcolm-Cromwell hosted an open forum with organizations in the arts and culture sector that enrich our region through creative endeavors, employment and arts education. During the conversation, attendees expressed a clear need for more funding and support for staffing and operations. Additional takeaways include a desire for more artists to be at the decision-making table, better access to boardrooms and private sector spaces, and greater recognition of the positive effects the arts have on our regional economy.
