Leia Tatucu || “My works have a connection to my own life – the connections I establish, the relationships I have with friends and family, the overwhelming experiences, good or bad, the love I feel.” Leia is a Romanian artist based in Germany. By combining fineliner drawings with resin poured paintings, geometric shapes and patterns with floral or animal motifs and alternating realism with abstraction in her work, she often depicts themes of general interest as visual metaphors. Her work usually includes hatch drawings and freehand straight lines, as a result of the technical drawing training she received while studying for her university degree as a civil engineer. By drawing elaborate and time-consuming geometric patterns Leia brings a sense of control back to her sometimes hectic life. She is pursuing her self-taught visual language and attending specific training courses in resin pouring, digital editing and drawing while also exercising her engineering profession. Connection and Discontinuity of Shahnameh Writing in Shiraz Al-Inju and Al-Muzaffar Schools Volume 12 Issue 31 Spring 2023 Pages 37-55 Nehzat Sadat Saffari Farzaneh Farokhfar DOI: 10.22055/PYK.2023.42872.1376 URL: https://lnkd.in/dZByDncT Problem Definition: Among the masterpieces of Persian literature, Shahnameh of Hakim Abulqasem Ferdowsi has a special place in visual arts because this epic and national work has been illustrated various times by the capable and master painters of this region. Each of these works is one of the most important documents to know the artistic characteristics of that period. Among the painting schools of Iran, the remaining works from the schools of Shiraz in the 8th century A.H. during the reigns of Al-Inju and Al-Muzaffar are very important because of the starting point of illustrating Shahnameh and the variety of existing works. Based on this, the present research addresses the following question: In the illustrated Shahnamehs of the two schools of Al-Inju and Al-Muzaffar, despite the existence of various illustrated versions and the symmetry of the common time and place in creating the works, what similarities and significant differences are clear in the way of illustrating the works of the two schools? Objective: The present research aims to identify the connection and discontinuity between images by comparative study and comparison of the visual and structural structures of the joint assemblies in the illustrated Shahnamehs of the two periods of Al-Inju and Al-Muzaffar. Research Method: In the current research, descriptive-analytical method with comparative approach was used and the information of this research was collected as library-documents. Results: The findings of the current research show that obvious similarities can be seen in the layout, composition and details of the images of these Shahnamehs; However, the improvement of the quality level of painting such as the increase of details, elegance and accuracy in design and diversity in movements is more visible in Al-Muzaffar period. Keywords: Painting Schools, Art of Shiraz, Al-Inju, Al-Muzaffar, Shahnameh Writing

𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒔 (𝒂𝒅𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆) : sooty, obscure, murky; having a dark or dusky color (Merriam-Webster) 𝑭𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒔 is a word with a dark and dirty past—it derives from “fuligo,” the Latin word for “soot.” In an early sense (now obsolete), “𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒔” was used to describe noxious bodily vapors once thought to be produced by organic processes. The “sooty” sense, which English speakers have been using since the early 1620s, can be used to describe everything from dense fogs and malevolent clouds to overworked chimney sweeps. “Fuliginous” can also be used to refer to something dark or dusky, as in Henry James’ 1903 novel The Ambassadors, in which the character Waymarsh is described as having “dark 𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒔 eyes.” 𝑭𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒕: David Teniers the Younger aka David Teniers II (1610-1690), prolific and versatile Flemish Baroque painter, printmaker, draughtsman, miniaturist painter, staffage painter, copyist, and art curator, “The Chimney Sweeper,” oil on canvas, c.1650-80 (according to the Dulwich Picture Gallery, after attributions to both David Teniers the Older and the Younger, “The Chimney Sweeper” was reattributed to the studio of Teniers the Younger in the 1990s) #mydictionary #words #fuliginous #lexicography #lifelonglearning #learninganddevelopment #artbasedlearning #artforthemind #davidtenierstheyounger #genrepainting #visualstorytelling #chimneysweep #illustrateddictionary #alternativelearning #learningreimagined

Reverse Glass Painting in Java, 19th–20th Centuries: Reflections of a World on the Move A Talk by Jérôme Samuel Date & Time : Thursday, 29 February 2024 at 19:00 Venue : Lecture Room, 4/Floor, The Siam Society Painting under glass was widely practised in Indonesia between the end of the 19th century and the 1970s. It was so successful that almost all Javanese iconography was reproduced on this medium. However, as works on other media (paper, wood, leather) have survived less well over time, reverse glass paintings give us access to a range of images that would be hard to find elsewhere. In my talk, I will focus on the question of modernity. During the span of time mentioned above, reverse glass painting has been a kind of emblem of “modernity”, not only by virtue of the medium itself but because of the models these paintings reproduced, the images they displayed and the ideas they conveyed. Based on a corpus of several hundred items, my aim is to show that iconography on glass can contribute to the study of Javanese history in the 19th - 20th centuries, and in particular enable us to better apprehend and understand iconographic tastes and uses, of course, as well as the circulation of ideas, both religious and political, within the different strata of colonial society in its non-European components. https://lnkd.in/ggjKf__f

Energizing visual art lovers with thought-provoking creativity that stimulates you to think more deeply about life and what life means | Creativity | Curiosity I Artistic
Abstract art is like having a chat without saying a word. When I create abstract pieces, I'm starting a visual conversation where every brushstroke, every color, and every shape has something to say. Just like in a conversation with words, abstract art invites you to look closely and listen with your eyes. Think of it this way: each painting or sculpture is like a story waiting to be told. But instead of words on a page, it's a mix of lines, colors, and textures that come together to create something unique and intriguing. And just like in a conversation, everyone sees and interprets it differently. Sometimes, people ask me what my abstract art is trying to say. But for me, it's not about having a single message or meaning. It's about sparking curiosity and inviting you to find your own story within the artwork. Have you ever looked at an abstract painting and felt like it was speaking directly to you? Maybe you saw shapes that reminded you of something familiar, or colors that evoked a certain mood. That's the beauty of abstract art—it's open to interpretation, allowing each person to bring their own experiences and emotions to the conversation. So the next time you come across an abstract piece, take a moment to engage in the visual dialogue. Let your eyes wander, your imagination roam, and see where the conversation takes you. You might be surprised by what you discover.
