Alexander Martini || “Each brushstroke, color choice, and composition becomes a vessel for conveying the intangible aspects of being human.” Alexander Martini is a contemporary abstract artist who passionately explores color, emotion, and form in his works. Born on December 29, 1993, in Krefeld, Germany, he developed a deep connection to the art world while traversing an extraordinary journey. His inspiration draws from the mesmerizing artistry of David Lynch, which prompted him to delve into the enigmatic and profound in his creations. His artistic journey has taken a unique path, differing from the conventional art school route. He is self-taught, continuously refining his skills and nurturing his artistic abilities. His journey began after he left school in the 11th grade to pursue a gardening apprenticeship. This period was far from easy. After four years of dedicated effort, he eventually triumphed, successfully passing the exam. However, after another year in the field, he realized change was necessary. He took the leap into self-employment as a gardener while attending school during the day to complete his high school diploma. Title: Navigating the Challenges of a Fine Arts Degree Embarking on a Fine Arts degree journey presents a myriad of challenges, each intricately woven into the fabric of artistic exploration. Here's a breakdown of the complexities that students may encounter along the way: 1. Technical Mastery: Fine Arts programs demand a deep dive into mastering diverse artistic techniques and mediums, requiring relentless practice and experimentation to achieve proficiency. 2. Conceptual Ingenuity: Beyond technical prowess, students grapple with developing conceptual depth, navigating the delicate balance between personal expression and thematic coherence in their work. 3. Critical Discernment: Immersed in the rich tapestry of art history and theory, students engage in rigorous critical analysis, honing their ability to dissect and evaluate artwork within cultural and aesthetic contexts. 4. Time Allocation: Balancing the demands of intensive studio work, research endeavors, and coursework necessitates adept time management skills to navigate deadlines and competing priorities. 5. Feedback Dynamics: Participating in critiques fosters growth but also challenges students to embrace vulnerability, as they confront constructive criticism and offer insightful evaluations of their peers' work. 6. Self-Discipline: Thriving in a Fine Arts program requires unwavering self-motivation and discipline, as students navigate the labyrinth of creative exploration and professional development. 7. Artistic Navigation: Beyond academia, students must navigate the multifaceted landscape of the art world, cultivating resilience and forging pathways to showcase their work, network effectively, and pursue career opportunities. Despite the formidable obstacles encountered, the pursuit of a Fine Arts degree is a transformative journey that imbues students with resilience, creativity, and a profound understanding of themselves and the world around them.

Every year our students begin their art classes by making a collaborative mural that stays up for the whole year. Each child chooses how they would like to contribute. This year they explored variations in colour and experimented with decorating their own circle, a smaller piece of the whole. The result is pretty amazing! #projectbasedlearning #collaborativelearning #internationslschool #primaryeducation #elementaryeducation

Curious about our Bachelor of Creative Arts? Curtin grad, Abdul shares insightful details about his time at Curtin and discusses his remarkable achievement of having his portraiture featured in the prestigious National Portrait Gallery’s ‘PORTRAIT23: Identity’ exhibition. 🎨 How does it feel to have your portraiture featured in the National Portrait Gallery’s, ‘PORTRAIT23: Identity’ exhibition? I’m pretty excited to have my new embroideries hung in the inaugural Portrait Gallery biennale. I really loved the Portrait Gallery when I first saw the space as a child, and I always have to pinch myself when I see my work in these spaces. 🎨 Tell us a bit about what the work is about and what inspired you to create these portraits? The work is inspired by Malay folklore regarding weretigers. I have linked these mythical creatures to my ongoing exploration into the projection of criminality and monstrosity onto benign bodies to justify the unjust seizure of land, bodies, labour, and resources. 🎨 How did your time at Curtin help shape you into the artist you are today? I started at Curtin in 2004 studying journalism, and then shifted over to art in 2006. The journalism definitely helped my writing and talking, and studying art has defined me over the last almost 20 years. Art school introduced me to some amazing thinkers and practitioners, and gave me the building blocks to become an artist. 🎨 What’s your biggest piece of advice for any young graduate wanting to pursue a full-time successful career as an artist? Find a community of like-minded people. Get your stuff out there. Keep learning. Participate in what’s going on. Be the audience as much or more than you’re the artist. Travel if you can, Understand uni is not end, but rather the prologue, and the work you make in class is important but doesn’t define you, so keep growing. The artwork has been provided courtesy of the artist and @yavuzgallery. 📸: Mark Mohell. As my Masters is about to end let's talk about subjects I was introduced to there! Systems thinking is the art of understanding how each network is connected to a node for any system to work. As the saying goes, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." This highlights the idea that a system's characteristics cannot be fully understood by analyzing its components in isolation. Instead, systems thinking emphasizes the interconnectedness and interactions between different elements of a system. Systems thinking is particularly hyper-relevant to subjects involving ecosystems, as it helps us address environmental, social, and economic challenges. By comprehending the complex interrelationships within systems, we can develop sustainable design solutions that consider long-term impacts and feedback loops, benefiting both people and the planet. During my craft cluster project in Wadhwan, Gujarat, my team and I employed systems thinking to understand the entire system comprehensively. We depended on an exceptionally useful book, acquiring knowledge of system design tools as outlined in "Universal Methods of Design," to examine and illustrate our discoveries. Also, During my internship, I applied systems thinking extensively while designing solutions for museums. This involved considering various interconnected factors and their implications on the overall design. For those eager to delve deeper into systems thinking, I highly recommend exploring the works of Donella Meadows, especially her book "Thinking in Systems: A Primer." Meadows' insights and frameworks offer invaluable guidance for understanding complex systems and crafting effective interventions. https://lnkd.in/gvnVmz2n #SystemThinking #DonellaMeadows #Research

Maybe silly...but I forgot adult classes exist. I know! There are marvelous, wonderful ways to spend an evening, learn something, become engrossed, and I completely forgot about it. I've taken art history with the Barnes Foundation, digitally but my next step is to find some sort of physical outlet, maybe screen-printing, clay-making, writing, something to get my mind moving. One thing I will challenge you, and myself is - do things sans a goal in mind. I don't want to be the best at anything, I don't want to make money off the craft or knowledge, I don't want to learn it enough to teach it, I don't want to count correct answers, or golden stars. I simply want to learn, and I encourage you to consider - when was the last time you learned or experienced something for the sake of it alone? For the sake of learning. No tests, no quizzes, no GPA. No one checking on you, no one giving you a deadline. I highly highly recommend picking up a class, whether it's a one time thing or a weekly routine. I found amazing ones here in Philly with this site. Join me! -- https://lnkd.in/eDAJWKiV
