Podcast Host of Live Well Be Well, Founder of the Mental Health Organisation the Be Well Collective, Associate registered Nutritionist, Key Note Speaker & TEDx speaker
I have been overwhelmed by the incredible response to this week's Live Well Be Well episode on ultra-processed foods. The messages I've received have been truly humbling - for some, the information has been genuinely life-changing. It still stuns me just how pervasive and damaging ultra-processed foods have become in our food supply and culture. These aren't just "unhealthy" foods to avoid - they are quite literally killing us and disrupting our biology in profound ways. On top of that, HALF of the government's nutrition advisory board is funded by mega-corporations like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo peddling these ultra-processed items. It's a sickening conflict of interest. But in this episode, we didn't just expose the dark underbelly of Big Food. We also provided solutions - real, actionable steps you can take today to start dismantling your reliance on ultra-processed foods and reclaiming your health. I'd like you to hear the full conversation if you haven't heard yet. It may just change your entire paradigm around food. 👇 https://lnkd.in/e6Z4B4R6

It was great to speak to Rachel Dreskin, CEO of the Plant Based Foods Association, who says, "The plant-based food industry has experienced exponential growth across a broad variety of categories, so the challenges facing the industry are changing and adapting as quickly as the industry grows and evolves. We’ve reached a point in time when we have to be bold in making a shift to a plant-based food system - there is a human health, social justice, and planetary imperative to do so." #plantbasedfoods #plantbasedbusiness #veganbusiness #foodsystems

Passionate About Nutrition and Sugar Reduction | Business and Brand Development | Client Experience | Wine Enthusiast
An article published recently questioning whether having a glass of Coca Cola was better for you than a glass of 100% orange juice based on the sugar content. Having 23 years experience in the media industry, I understand that headlines are chosen to enhance readership as that is what drives revenue. However, for the average consumer this messaging is confusing at best. There is a lot of conflicting information out there regarding sugar, added sugar and Highly Processed Foods (HPF). The media needs to do better. A couple of thoughts: 1. The 100% orange juice products available on the store shelves are very different than fresh squeezed juice. Some do add sugar and preservatives thus it could be considered processed though not as highly processed as a Coke. 2. Shelves are full of "Juice" products that contain less than 100% fruit juice. They are diluted with water, which also dilutes the nutrition. Reading labels is a must. 3. From a purely nutritional aspect, there are far more nutrient dense choices than orange. Yes, it has Vitamin C, most 100% fruit juices do. Cranberry, Tart Cherry and grape juices all have significantly more amounts of antioxidants, polyphenols, and potassium for hydration, in addition to vitamins and minerals. Definitely a better choice if you're relying on juice for nutrition. 4. Whole fruit will always be a better choice than juice because of the fiber. It's also much easier to consume MORE than the recommended 8oz juice serving, and the sugar, calories and carbs that come with it, then you are to eat several pieces of fruit in one sitting. The takeaway: Be informed and choose wisely. #fruitjuice #juice #sugarreduction #fruitnutrition #beverageinnovation #wellnesstrends #foodasmedicine #zerosugar #nutrition
Coca Cola is better for you than orange juice. Or that is what has been claimed several times in the media. 🚨Discover the Real Deal: Think Twice Before Digging into Lab-Grown Meat 🚨. I hope you're as curious about the latest food news as I am! 🍽️ Brace yourself, because the FDA has cleared lab-grown poultry for human consumption. While it may sound like a breakthrough, I urge you to pause before taking a bite. Let's be clear—I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade or discredit scientific progress. However, when it comes to our plates, informed choices are key to our health and well-being. 💡🍎 Here's why you should think twice about lab-grown meat: 🥩 Quality and Nutritional Value: Lab-grown meat, aka cultured meat, is created by culturing animal cells with synthetic growth factors and more. The result may lack the same nutritional profile and quality as naturally-raised meat. 🤔 Unknown Long-Term Effects: The long-term impact of lab-grown meat on our health remains largely unknown. Let's prioritize whole foods we've evolved with! 🌿 The Importance of Natural Variability: Natural meats come from animals with diverse diets in varied environments, offering rich nutritional complexity. Lab-grown alternatives lack this natural diversity. Now, what's Dr. Josh Axe's - a renowned expert in natural health and wellness - take on this? Prioritize real, whole foods that are close to nature. Opt for pasture-raised, grass-fed meats free from synthetic additives. Remember, you have the power to align your choices with your values. Support local farmers and sustainable practices for a healthier food system and your well-being. 🌱💚 Looking for nutrient-dense foods? Explore local farmers' markets or connect with CSA programs. Build relationships with farmers and enjoy real, nourishing food. 🥕 Let's be mindful of our choices' impact on our health, the environment, and our future. Together, we can create a world where natural, nourishing foods take center stage. 🌎🌿 Stay tuned for more on thriving through natural, whole foods. To your vibrant health! 🌟✨ Agathe Holowatinc, BA, MLIS, INHC #LabGrownMeat #HealthChoices #NaturalFoods #SustainableEating #DrJoshAxe #WellBeing #HealthAndWellness #MindfulChoices

Unlocking regenerative potential of food, agriculture, and the bioeconomy for climate drawdown and resilience
What’s in our food? Believe it or not, we still don’t know... My colleague John de la Parra was recently quoted in a #Forbes article discussing the Periodic Table of Food Initiative (#PTFI). This initiative aims to democratize tools, data, and training to evaluate the quality of the world's food supply. "Rather than focusing on only a few components of certain foods, the goal is to map the entire complex makeup of every food on the planet in a standardized and open format. This information can then be universally used to benefit human and planetary health". This is truly foundational science at the heart of food systems transformation! Partners including #FoodEDU, the #RockefellerFoundation, the #AmericanHeartAssociation, #BioversityInternational, and #CIAT are driving food diversity, scientific advances, and community innovation. Check out the Forbes article to learn more about the global effort to map biomolecules in food to health outcomes. #FoodSystems #FoodDiversity #HealthOutcomes #CommunityInnovation #ScientificAdvances #PeriodicTableOfFood #DemocratizingFoodData 🥗 🥑 🔬 https://lnkd.in/ep72x5yS
