🌼I’ve just finished my 2-hour slot collecting donations for Marie Curie at Morrisons in Pontefract. 💖It was great to meet so many lovely people who donated for this great charity. 🏥Marie Curie is a very worthwhile cause providing care and support for people who are at the end of their life and the people who are close to them, right across the UK. 🌼Marie Curie Nurses and Healthcare Professionals provide expert hospice care, whatever the illness, in the comfort of home or in one of their nine hospices. 🏥Marie Curie Nurses give practical hands-on care to help people with any terminal illness remain at home. They will often spend a whole nine-hour shift, usually at night, with one patient and their family. ✅They also do vital research and campaigning work to improve the end-of-life experience for everyone across the UK. 💰About half of it is funded by the NHS but the other half is funded by donations. 💡In 2022-23, Marie Curie Nurses and Healthcare Assistants cared for over 44,000 people and over 1.4 million accessed their online information and support. 💛So, if you’re out and about in the next couple of weeks and you see someone standing in a yellow tabard and a silly yellow hat, with a collection tin, please donate – if you don’t have any cash, they have a card reader to make payment by card. It will help a great cause! #GreatDaffodilAppeal

💸 England's slow response to update funding for serious and terminal care services is causing an enormous funding deficit. 🕳 "Adult hospices only receive on average around one third of their funding from the state, and children’s hospices only receive around one fifth. This means most of the funding for essential hospice services comes from fundraising and charitable donations." 🩹 According to the All Party Parliamentary Groups report, "...the way hospice services are commissioned in England is not fit for purpose." 📉 Will these services cease to exist, or will it exacerbate the current postcode lottery for local services? #Hospice #CareServices #UKNews #PalliativeCare #Nursing #CareWorkers #HospiceUK

TARGET REACHED! But the Big Give #christmaschallenge is still open and here's why you should still consider donating... The whole project to renovate the neonatal unit at the Mother and Child Institute in Moldova is estimated to cost more than £250,000. MAD-Aid has already raised some of these funds and the Big Give Christmas Challenge is just part of our efforts to ensure the dream of a modern neonatal unit at the Mother and Child Institute becomes reality. The £15,000 raised via the Big Give Christmas Challenge could help us to… Kit out two bathrooms at the cost of £7,000 per bathroom AND purchase and install two tumble-dryers at a cost of £500 each, so the babies’ clothes can be dried, whatever the weather! OR install a new electrical system for one of the wards at the rough cost of £12,000, plus purchase some paint and other small but necessary items. OR pay for three articulated lorries full of medical equipment and donated building materials to travel from the UK to Moldova at the cost of £4,500 per lorry, plus a few smaller items. Our Big Give Christmas Challenge online appeal page is live until noon tomorrow (Tuesday, December 5) and we have now reached the £15,000 target, which means the match funding pot has been used up and the donations are no longer being doubled.
