Can communications professionals be change catalysts?
The little journalist still alive within me got out in an interview!
In November, I had the pleasure of joining the Luum Awards ceremony and celebrating the best communication campaigns for societal and environmental causes.
In this interview, I was asked whether communicators are agents of change.
🌟 I believe that communicators and marketers have much power in raising and amplifying voices and causes, and in getting important messages heard and seen.
🌟 No message or phenomenon is born in a void, and as communications and marketing professionals we need to lead the discussion on topics that matter, not merely reflect and mirror what is happening around us.
🌟 Because communication is always about choices and values, we need to be wise and ethical about using that potential and power.
🌟 That means asking the right questions, like which voices are underrepresented. Who is given space to talk and who is silenced? These are the questions I learned to ask as a journalist and they are just as powerful in communications.
What do you think: Can communications and marketing professionals function as change agents - and should they?
Thank you for raising these voices, Luum Awards and Mauricio Rodríguez Vargas. Until next year!
